Portland or Seattle??????????????

greenspun.com : LUSENET : ER Discussions : One Thread

Ok, this might sound redundant but please bear with me. I remember Doug telling us in the previous episodes before he left that he will be leaving for Portland. Now what I don't get is why does Carol say keep saying Seattle??? Can somebody track this down for me? If I'm right, then the TPTB has made a slight mistake.

No, I think that I remember in the episode when he left they said he was going to Seattle. But I could be wrong.

After the babies were born, Carol told Abby she wanted to call long distance to Seattle, so that has to be where he is. The job offer Amanda Lee was talking about awhile before he left was in Portland. But then while he was talking to Carol he said he was thinking of taking the Portland job offer, or maybe Seattle. They left it questionable where he went (and why he went there specifically, for that matter) but he must have ended up in Seattle.

I believe he told Carol he was thinking of going to Seattle because he had liked the Northwest so much when he was visiting Portland (the job offer).

Doug told Carol he was thinking of moving to the Pacific Northewest, he'd liked what he saw of it while in med school. He never really said he was definately going to Portland, only that he was considering that job offer, or maybe moving to Seattle. Apparentely, he moved to Seattle. :-) (Which furthers my theory on their "Sleepless In Seattle" theme.)

Okay, Arianne, what's the "Sleepless in Seattle" theory? Doug might be in Seattle (like Tom Hanks) but Carol's in Chicago (and I thought Meg Ryan was in Baltimore...maybe I'm wrong). I'm a bit lost so please enlighten me...I am intrigued (loved that movie)!

I like that idea of "Sleepless in Seattle"...it's not at all the same story, but since the movie is such a classic modern romance, it fits...Doug is lonely and wishing he hadn't given up on Carol (and his daughters) and Carol is sitting across the country wishing she were with him, but neither of them wants to feel ridiculous, so they are still sitting, waiting for each other. I think what Arianne was talking about is that Seattle has become kind of a romanticized, longing-for-your-love-but-not-quite-there-yet city because of the movie, and now that is where Doug is.

you never know with the pac n.w.- i thought that i was moving to seattle and ended up in portland! anyhow- all the tidbits that TPTB have thrown our way have indicated that doug is in seattle. and as mentioned above, he did throw out both pdx and seattle as options to carol when discussing his move.

I could be waaaaaay wrong, but I seem to remember a SeaHawks reference from Mark. That would mean Seattle....right?

Yeah, Elaine, that's basically my "Sleepless In Seattle" theory about the Doug/Carol storyline. Besides references to it in the past (episode title "Sleepless in Chicago," Linda asking Carol if she believes there's "one perfect person for everyone" like in "'Sleepless In Seattle'"). Seattle is where Tom Hanks' character was lonely and longing (he was originally from Chicago, in the beginning of the movie), and across the country was Meg Ryans' character longing to be with him...both a little afraid and fearing looking "stupid" or "crazy," so for a long time they do nothing about it until, finally< /b>, they find one another. Star-crossed lovers, if you will, like Doug & Carol are. JMHO. :-)
