13 April 2000 04:21 PM - (South Africa) Title: SAAF Pilot Dies in Plane Crash

Pretoria - An SA Air Force pilot died and his crew of three were injured when a Cessna 185 aircraft crash-landed in Mozambique on Thursday.

The plane was on a routine border control operation at the time, the SA National Defence Force said in a statement in Pretoria.

It said the pilot was forced to do an emergency landing about 56km south of Komatipoort early in the morning.

"The nature of the terrain forced the pilot to land on the Mozambican side of the border."

The SANDF said an Oryx helicopter had been dispatched from Maputo to fly the injured to One Military Hospital in Pretoria.

No further details were immediately available, and the names of those involved would be released after their next of kin had been informed.

The Mozambican authorities had been notified and a board of inquiry was investigating the accident, the SANDF said. - Sapa
