theory on Carol's departure (spoiler?)

greenspun.com : LUSENET : ER Discussions : One Thread

Lots of clues from the April 13 episode and other threads have led me to a theory on how Carol's departure will be introduced. First there was the talk about Doug's visits and his asking her to move to Seattle. Next, her talk with Luka about his family. Finally, on an early thread, someone said in an upcoming episode Luka will spend the day with Carol buying her a car. That could lead to lots of conversation between them. I predict that she will reveal to him Doug's request that she move, and admit that she is still in love with Doug. Although Luka will be a little sad because of his attraction for Carol, I think he mostly feels a sort of fatherly concern for her and the girls. So he will tell her how painful for him as a father it has been to be separated from his family. He will encourage her to move, and keep the family together, because he believes families should stick together as long as they can. His encouragement will finally convince Carol that she needs to be with Doug. Does this seem plausible?

I totally agree that Luka will be very supportive and urge Carol to reunite with Doug. As you mentioned, he knows what it is like to lose your family.

the car may be the perfect way for her to drive off to Seattle also.

I kind of figured that Luka would be the perfect person to convince Carol to move to Seattle and be with Doug. It makes perfect sense! I knew he wasn't there just to try an get in her scrubs...haha! He's too good for her anyway. JMHO :)

Joy, you're right, Luka's too good for Carol. He's amazingly stable despite having his family massacred. Poor Luka. I hope he convinces her to move to Seattle - it's the kind of thing he'd do.

Huh! Luka isn't too good for Carol, but that's beside the point. I feel that Luka may indirectly influence Carol to move to Seattle. Obviously neither has opened up to the other about their personal experiences/pain. I had been convinced Carol knew of his children's death, but some have me now thinking otherwise. The last we SAW her being told is that his family no longer lives in Croatia -- I suppose we'll find out soon.

My point was that perhaps Luka finally opening up and revealing what he's been through, and what it's like to be separated from his family, may be the final straw that pushes Carol back into Doug's arms. It would be very ironic if Luka divulged this information in hopes to grow closer to her romantically, only to find that his words made her realize how much she loves *another*. Anyhow, it seems to me Luka is drawn to Carol -- whether it's to Carol (who resembles his wife), or to the idea of a family again (very likely), or to both of those things, is unclear at this point. However, I believe that he would in the end urge her to go be with Doug to keep her family together, since that seems to be a priority of his, at least after what he's bee

That last sentance was supposed to read, "...after what he's BEEN through." :-

Although Luka seems attracted to Carol deep down I suspect he simply has affection for her, not love. When she moves away yes, he'll be sad because he'll have lost a very good friend but I don't think he'll be heart broken, because really he's not ready for a serious relationship.

I agree, Arianne, in that it's only Kerry who has been directly told 'My wife and family were taken and killed' by Luka; mostly he's kept it to himself (interesting how he reveals his past to another private people in the er - Kerry and Luka both keep their problems to themselves) but is it possible that she may have discreetly warned people about his past? Though I don't think it likely that Kerry would spread around something Luka told her in confidence they may have been overheard or she may have informed people quietly for his sake. We know that the staff know he used to have a family and that he lost them somehow - from the fact he used to live in Croatia they may well guess his family were killed. Also when Luka is showed photos of Carol's babies by Chuny, he mumbles something complimentary and leaves. Chuny then gasps - remembering he used to have a family in Croatia. This suggests she knows what happened to his family.

I'm not entirely sure if that last paragraph made sense, or was even relevant - I'm very tired so if it's just rambling that's why.

I think Juliet's right, that the staff basically knows about his family. Kerry probably wouldn't have blabbed it all over the ER, but after he opened up to her, he might have opened up to other staff members off camera. After all, Doug's been "seeing his girls" off camera. Chuny did seem to know that he had (past tense) children.
