Athearn Genesis SD70 DCC friendly?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Wiring for DCC : One Thread

I have 2 Athearn SD70 Genisis locomotives, DCC is from Lenz. My question is: Is there a decoder that drops in as a replacement for the Athearn PC board, or should a decoder be hard wired to the existing board?

Yes, there is a board that will drop directly in that locomotive. I suggest using this as opposed to trying to "wire around" what's already there. I forget who makes it, but Tonys Trains will gladly help you figure this out.

DigitraX does it

YES!

The DIGITRAX DH150A Works perfectly! I just installed one yesterday and it was a snap. You can also program the ditch lights with this decoder! Good Luck!

The Atlas Dual Mode decoder will drop in also but don't know if you can program the ditch separtly. Also you need to add a resistor to the lights. I'm trying to find out what size resistor to use. Have any ideas, let me know.
