Goat dandruff???

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I was having a petting moment with on of the girls today. I was vigorously scratching her back and was getting copious amounts of what looked like goat dandruff. On closer inspection she has very dry skin, a few small sores in some places and the surface of her skin looks kinda crusty in places. Doesn't seem to bother her much but she really liked the back scratch. My wife suggested vit E. Any suggestions? Is there a dietary fix for this? Exzema(sp?)?? Thanks

Hello, If you can, ad about 1/8 cup of Flax seed and 1/8 of Veggie oil of some sort into your goats grain ration. With in 3 weeks you should start to see alot of improvement.

You can also do this... 4 cups boiling hot water 2 ~~3 inch sprig of fresh Rosemary 1 ~~3 inch sprig of fresh mint 2 ~~ Tablespoons of white Vinger Steep in hot water until luke warm to the touch.. take out Herbs and just poor over the goats back every 4 to 6 days.Do not rinse. (Also works really good on people Dandruff!)

Hope this helps. :O)

When we trim for shows first of the year, and right now we are trimming everyone, its summer here in Texas, we will see nasty dandruff on does who carry heavy undercoats. Mostly on the LaMancha's and black Nubians. Once there hair is off of them, a good shampoo, a good rinse, a good brushing with skin-so-soft, on the brush and in a spray bottle too. I would be a little worried about the "a few small sores". She wouldn't have sores from winter hair shed. Might want to give her a shave or a good bath, if its warm enough, with a good dog shampoo with pyrethrins in it, keep watch on those sores, at the very least give her 1cc per 110 pounds under the skin of Ivermectin 1%, it does get rid of mites, lice and nosebots injecting it (though don't count it as your worming if you are due to worm soon).
