Title: Three Die in Mid-Air Collision

April 19, 2000

Three people, including a child, have been killed in a mid-air collision between two light aircraft.

The crash involved a Cessna aircraft and a Russian-built single-seater which had been coming into land at North Weald, Essex.

It is understood both planes came down at 1725 BST in the Hastingwood area of Harlow, approximately eight miles north-west of the airfield.

Fire crews and an air ambulance have arrived at the scene.

The three people who died were on board the two aircraft.

Police say the collision is being treated as a major incident.

Witness Gary Mills, who has a business near the scene, told the BBC: "A lot of debris fell from the skies and a lot of it fell into our yard."

He added that he thought one of the planes may have been from a nearby film set.
