May 4 *SPOILER* - "Loose Ends"

greenspun.com : LUSENET : ER Discussions : One Thread

A weary Dr. Greene (Anthony Edwards) remains at home to care for his father (guest star John Cullum) and shares a tender moment, while a robust Dr. Kovac (Goran Visnjic) tries to court Nurse Hathaway (Julianna Margulies). In addition, faulty hospital procedure causes Dr. Benton (Eriq La Salle) to assail Kovac for not checking up on a patient (guest star Lincoln Kilpatrick) who now might lose his leg; likewise, Dr. Chen (Ming-Na) is horrified to learn that a simple metabolic test for infants could have prevented a boy's disabling brain seizure. Dr. Carter (Noah Wyle) assumes Greene's shift and is a whirling dervish of activity who can't resist taking over other doctors' cases as well. When an anemic teenager (guest star Polly Cusumano) refuses crucial treatment, Dr. Corday (Alex Kingston) makes a calculated gamble in order to assist her. Dr. Malucci (Erik Palladino) is enraged when a 6- year-old car accident victim (guest star Steffani Brass) claims that her father (guest star Jay Underwood) has been sexually abusing her.

Just a couple comments here... it looks as if the Star's spoilers (remember them?) weren't too far off the mark (re Carter and Luka/ Carol)... poor Carter, his life is just getting weirder and weirder... and as for Luka, I HOPE the story with Benton isn't another case of "crabby Dr. Benton and saintly Luka Kovac..." And wow! Malucci has a plotline for himself!

-- debbie (riccardoiii@aol.com), April 19, 2000.

Debbie, where do you find these spoilers? Thanks for the info!

-- Paula (pbranden@dwave.net), April 19, 2000.

If you go to http://tvguide.about.com and select "ER," you can find an episode guide. It goes up to 2 weeks in advance, so check for spoilers on the Thursday 2 weeks before the new episode. (I guess they were early today, since it's Wednesday)

No I gave the wrong address. It's http://tvschedules.about.com

Wow, I wonder how far they will go with Carter..."whirling dervish"??? that doesn't sound too good, (rather tabloid-ish...could it really be?) in fact, it sounds insane, I hope he freaks out soon so that EVERYONE (Carol included) can start helping him here! Then maybe on the season finale there is a tender moment with him and the staff.

I'm glad to hear "tried" about Luka courting Carol (they really gave him a rather gallant word..."courting"). I am all Doug & Carol, but he's a sweet guy and it will be sad that he's losing her as a friend.

I cannot wait to see Dr. Dave enraged! Yeah, finally a storyline!

Why can't they give Mark and Elizabeth at least ONE storyline together?

-- Elaine (mrsclooney78@hotmail.com), April 19, 2000.

Well...Marks a little busy right now...

-- (trelles@ix.netcom.com), April 19, 2000.

I know...I meant I want to see a storyline about Elizabeth supporting Mark...so Mark isn't alone here.

-- Elaine (mrsclooney78@hotmail.com), April 20, 2000.

I'm sorry, I've been trying to keep quiet lately, but when I read comments that people are hoping that Carter freaks out soon so everyone (Carol included) can help him out, I gnash my teeth and groan. If I were Carter, the last person I would want helping me out is Carol. I mean, she was soooooo helpful the last time they talked. Oy! I wish we could just get to the end of the season and wave goodbye to Carol, already, so that we don't have to put up with any more of this we-make-it-up-as-we-go writing with her. I guess I'm still upset about the whole Doug-comes-and-sees-the-kids thing. The last thing I knew, Doug hadn't even been told that she was pregnant....and now he's flying out to Chi=town from time to time? Pleeeeze....

-- Don (dgow@excite.com), April 20, 2000.

We were shown last spring that Doug knows about the pregnancy/babies. Carol's failed fax attempt from "Power" succeeded an episode or two later. He phoned, they talked, he didn't return -- so he did know and while I think we were ALL taken aback by this recent revelation, it's not like we didn't even know he knew. And I guess, while I'm still shocked by it, who ever really expected that Hathaway would keep Ross from their children, or that he would stay away? If THAT had been the storyline, I wouldn't have bought it.

OOOOOOOOOOOH, I'm so excited!! I know Jay Underwood, but he didn't tell me he was going to be on my favorite show. I will have to bug him about that tomorrow when I see him!!! Thanks, Debbie! :)

Whirling dervish? WHIRLING DERVISH??? Is that a bipolar plot bat I see falling out of the sky??? OW it hit me!! And now I can't see what with all the SOAP in my eyes!! What is happening to my show??

-- (trelles@ix.netcom.com), April 20, 2000.

I'd like to see some interaction between Mark and Elizabeth. The only communication they seem to be having now is limited and infrequent. There relationship seems to headed in the direction of Elizabeth's previous relationship with Peter.

-- Lindsay (lindsayz@webtv.net), April 20, 2000.

Does anyone think that Mark and Elizabeth's relationship is going to be one of the cliff hangers at season end. Mark seems to be really shutting Elizabeth out and trying to handle everything by himself. They don't appear to be as close as they were before Mark's latest series of woes. No wonder Elizabeth has been in a bitchy mood these last few weeks. Is Mark going to have a total meltdown and end up withdrawn and isolated? Is Mark going to seek out help from Elizabeth because he can't handle it alone? Is their relationship going down the tubes or will we see it strenghten before the end of season. Any thoughts or opinions on how the TPTB will handle this since they have done such a wonderful job wih all the previous relationships on Er.

-- Lindsay (lindsayz@webtv.net), April 20, 2000.

Mark and Lizzie are certainly falling apart. They never do anything together, just them. Never mind. It might give her a chance to hook up with someone else.

Luka should give up Carol, but I agree whoever said he's a sweet guy. She's not the kind of woman he needs though - maybe Lizzie?

I don't like Chen. She's nasty.

I don't like Benton either. He's too sorry for himself.

From next week's TV GUIDE regarding the May 4 epi ("Loose Ends"): Greene takes time off to tend to his father (John Cullum) at home; Hathaway's distracted, which interferes with her work; Malucci cares for a young incest victim. There's a picture of Mark, Carol and Carter on the opposite page with these words: A career in jeopardy. A broken heart. A final goodbye.

-- Diana (dilynne@juno.com), April 25, 2000.

I saw that too...so I guess the career in jeopardy, final goodbye, and broken heart refer to Carol, Carter, and Mark. Obviously, Carol is the goodbye, and I'm guessing Mark's broken heart is his dad? Or it could be Carter. I read it first and thought that I would look up and see Luka, but it wasn't. So maybe Mark's father dies in that episode? I was really hoping he would somehow live through next year, but I knew that wouldn't happen. So does that mean that the career in jeopardy is Carter? Maybe his "whirling dervish" gets him in trouble, or he acts impulsively. This is definetly one of the more exciting ending season on ER. Any other ideas?

-- Elaine (mrsclooney78@hotmail.com), April 25, 2000.

Then again it says Carol is distracted, interfering with her work. Doesn't exactly sound like a career in jeopardy, but you never know where it could go. My first thought of the final goodbye was Mark's dad, maybe because we're hearing Carol isn't leaving until the May 11th epi. Who knows at this point where they'll take it. Maybe after this Thursday we'll know more! But somehow I doubt it. :)

-- Diana (dilynne@juno.com), April 25, 2000.

Diana, that's a good idea, it probably is Mark's dad, since it doesn't make sense for Carol since she's leaving the episode after. So who is the broken heart...maybe they are just referring to Carol admitting to Luka that she misses Doug, or Luka admitting his story about his family...I hope it's not about Carol breaking Luka's heart. The career in jeopardy is probably just a dramatic way of saying Carter's odd behavior is seriously affecting his work.

-- Elaine (mrsclooney78@hotmail.com), April 26, 2000.

Just read the tv guide for next week and where it gives the actor and the character they play they had a charecter by the name of Millicent Carter. Is that Gamma? or a new character.

-- margaret (mac5266@yahoo.com), April 26, 2000.

After reading the spoiler for the May 11 epi, "Such Sweet Sorrow," I'm even more convinced that Mark's dad will die in "Loose Ends."
