CALM, Chap.9, Sec. 1, #5

greenspun.com : LUSENET : UR General Chemistry : One Thread

The problem ID is 956264085. I used the formula dH = bonds broken - bonds formed dH = (1652kJ + 239kJ) - (1239kJ + 339kJ + 427kJ) dH = -114kJ

What did I do wrong?

The answer stated here on the billboard is really close, so I would say you are using the right formula. You do have to understand that the values they used could have been from another table, which could have been rounded differently. When I contacted the guy who runs the CALM program he said to try rounding to the nearest tenth of a point.....try rounding, don't forget significant figures, give 'er another shot and let me know how it goes.
