Why is Carla so upset at Miles death? She carries on like she was the widow.

Well, as Dale said, Miles was her first sweetheart. She probably still has feelings for him because of that. Or maybe she realizes she made a mistake and chose the wrong brother. I get the feeling she thought about that a lot from Dale's comment about how little money Miles had in savings and that she has gotten a lot more from him even after their divorce.

I think Carla was so upset because of what she did to Miles. She was seeing Miles when she met his brother. I think she is disgusted in herself for doing such a wrong thing as she did. I also think she is feeling guilty for not being a friend to him for many years. She might also blame herself for Miles not being around his brother or nephew.

I don't think Carla is feeling any kind of lose for Miles. I myself believe she is putting on an act. She has turned into her mother, and playing part of a grieving sister-in-law. The fact is that if she really cared for Miles or anyone else, her children would have meet them and not have to wonder who they where. I don't believe that she really even cares much that Miles is dead. To me it's just fake sympathy, something the writer was trying to demonstrate that some people have.
