How long does it take for bread to rise?

Bread may take anywhere from 45 min. (plane white bread) to 6 hours (Sourdough bread) to rise properly on the first rise. It all depends on the type of bread you are making. The heavier the bread, the longer it is going to take for the first rise. I like to let my breads go through 3 rising periods. Each additional rising period should take half as long as the one before it.
