NBC has renewed "ER" through 2004

On the way to work this morning, I heard on the radio that NBC has renewed "ER" through 2004. The episodes will each cost about $10 million. I was thrilled to hear this beacuse I don't know what I'll do if/when "ER" goes off the air.

Yeah! Great news. I was concerned because seven years seems to be the best run for most series these days (next year is Star Trek Voyager's 7th and final series). ER for four more years!

Don't flame me for this, but FOUR MORE YEARS!? Chances are the rest of the original cast will be gone after 2002. I just don't know if they can keep the quality up. We already know it's slipping, and a lot of shows that are on for a decade turn into jokes of the entertainment world. Former glories that try to chug along on past steam. I want to see "ER" go out on top, and I'm not sure that's possible if it goes on for so long.

I agree, Arianne, I don't want to see ER deteriorate into the crap that's on TV most of the time. But if they can keep the quality up and keep good actors in the show, I'm all for it carrying on forever!

Arainne, once again, I totally agree. 2004 sounds so far away, does that mean Wyle, Edwards, LaSalle, Kingston and everyone will want to stay on for that long? I just don'tknow about that, I was perfectly happy with two more years; four seems like forever!

Does anyone know how long Luka will be around? I am really hoping that this "relationship" with Carol will not lead to his leaving the show in May, too.

Nothing to fear, Annie! Per the article on Goran in last week's TV GUIDE, he's signed a three-year contract. I don't think TPTB would let him go too easily. He seems to be one of the most popular new characters in a while.

THANK YOU, Diana! You have set my mind at ease! :)

Just wanted to add an update...my local paper had a little blurb in it this morning about ER being renewed through 2003-2004. It said while other original cast members have checked out (Sherry Stringfield, Clooney and Marguiles) that "Noah Wyle, Anthony Edwards, and Eriq La Salle have said they will stick with the show". So that is good news and I am so glad to hear from Diana above that Goran Visnic has signed for three years. As everyone probably knows - I love Luka! Now if the writing can stay up to par...it is possible. Look at Law and Order. It has been on since 1990 and won an emmy for best drama (its first) in '97 and is still excellent IMO!
