Title: Pilot Lands Plane On Highway

Electrical problem blamed for forced landing on County C near Seymour

OSBORN - A 1969 Cessna airplane flown by a 47-year-old Crivitz man had to make an emergency landing Thursday evening in this rural town in northern Outagamie County.

William Flynn was flying solo from Crivitz to Oconto when his plane began to experience electrical difficulties just after 6 p.m. He was able to land the plane without the landing gear on County C north of Mielke Road.

Staff Sgt. David Spaeth of the Outagamie County Sheriff's Department said Flynn was able to keep the plane upright during the landing with only minor damage to the undercarriage.

Flynn, who has had his pilot's license since 1972, had to steer clear of electrical lines and avoid a collision with a car.

Authorities were called to the scene at 6:28 p.m.

"This is the first time in 18 years I've had anything like this," Spaeth said.

A portion of County C was shut down for more than three hours as the plane was loaded onto a flatbed wrecker and taken to Austin Straubel International Airport at Green Bay.
