Title: 3 Injured in Cooking Oil Factory Blast Mainichi Shimbun

April 30, 2000 SHIMIZU, Shizuoka - Three workers were injured in an explosion that occurred at a cooking oil factory here in the predawn hours of Saturday, police said.

A machine that extracts oil from soybeans at the Hohnen Oil Co. factory in Shimizu, Shizuoka Prefecture, blew up at around 12:30 a.m., when three workers were repairing the device, police said.

In the explosion, the three workers, including Toshiaki Yokoi, 52, were seriously injured, but their wounds are not life-threatening.

Police questioned the three workers and conducted an on-the-spot inspection at the plant in a bid to determine the cause of the accident.

The accident will likely force the suspension of operations of the factory for a couple of days, company officials said. http://www.mainichi.co.jp/english/news/archive/200004/30/news04.html
