Title: Nuclear Reactor Shut Down for Repairs in Ukraine

The Associated Press

KIEV, Ukraine (AP) - A nuclear reactor at Ukraine's Rivne power plant was shut down to fix a defect in its steam generator system, while another reactor at a second plant was restarted after repairs, a news agency said Tuesday.

Reactor No. 3 was shut down Monday night, and the repairs are to continue until May 9, the state nuclear company Energoatom said, according to the Interfax news service.

Officials said there was no danger to the environment.

Meanwhile, reactor No. 3 at the Yuzhnaya power plant was restarted Saturday after four days of repairs to fix a defect in its turbogenerator, the report said.

Currently, eight of 14 nuclear reactors are working at the country's five nuclear power plants, producing about 40 percent of Ukraine's electricity output.
