Is anyone out there still expecting a suicide as predicted in the "Star" and do you think it will be Carol?? She seemed kind of lost in tonights episode. Just throwing this out there to see what you all think...

I have a feeling Carol's teary "I hate my life..." was supposed to get us worried. However, it was followed by her stating that she loves her work and her daughters. What she hates about her life is the fact that Doug is not in it -- a problem with a solution, albight a difficult one. If Carol had said "I hate life" I'd be more worried than I am. I'm relieved to see that slowly, but surely, she's realizing it's a huge burden to keep your emotions bottled up inside. She's spoken to Mark before and now Kerry...let's hope next week she speaks to DOUG!! ;-)

P.S. The promo made me cry. I thought of all the great memories and can't believe she's leaving. Wow.

Oh Arianne I KNOW! My hero's leaving!! The memory scenes were great and the best: Carol, Carter, and Susan dancing to Twist and Shout! Still no images of her leaving, except very short ones...hmmm. Where *were* Luka and Carol in that scene in the preview where it seems they have a pretty emotional goodbye? ANY possibility Doug will come back? I mean, no one's come out and said straight forward: GC is not coming back. Wouldn't it be great for an emotional Carol to call Doug and have him come out to make her feel better? Sorry, I'm in a nostalgic state right now, so I'm being way too hopeful. One thing I'm thinking though...the scene of her at her wedding to Tag...wouldn't a newcomer be completely confused; they may think Carol and DOug really DID get married!

Yes, I still think suicide's a possibility, I mentioned it in another thread a week or so ago called "Another death soon?" I really don't think she's getting together with Doug, because it would just be too fairy-tale perfect. I think the writers are planning a surprise, maybe not necessarily suicide, but something other than a completely happy ending. I thought the producers had said that her exit was going to be something we wouldn't expect, anyway.

I hadn't been thinking suicide was a serious possibility until tonight. Now I think it's entirely possible.

As usual, we didn't get the preview up here in Canada.

What did it show?

-- Rusty Priske (rusty.priske@hrdc-drhc.gc.ca), May 05, 2000.

Rusty, I wouldn't have called it a preview. It was a variety of clips showing Carol over the years, starting with the one of her walking toward the Church in her wedding gown, then her babies being born, etc. The scene where she and Susan danced with Carter was also included. Everyone above seems really excited about it but I was disappointed. I wanted to see what's going to happen next week, not what already has.

-- Diana (dilynne@juno.com), May 05, 2000.

The only "new" scenes in the previews were at the end : Carol and Luka, looking like they were saying goodbye and Carol walking with her coat on, leaving the er I guess. That's about it...

The "spoiler" also said, "an ER to cherish." Would ANY of you out there cherish he3r

The "spoiler" also said, "an ER to cherish." Would ANY of you out there cherish her suicide? Doubt it! It better be good!

-- Rachel (rachelrr@ivillage.com), May 05, 2000.

I didn't see that "An ER to Cherish." Was that part of the "Next Week" thing? I hope so -- that would pretty much guarantee Carol won't off herself, and that would be a relief. I really don't want to see that happen.

-- Elizabeth (ebs42@yahoo.com), May 05, 2000.

I don't think Carol will commit suicide, but I will miss her loads when she leaves. I'm from England so we've got a few more weeks till she leaves yet, so that gives me time to stock up on tissues for her final episode. I hope she comes back for guest appearances and George aswell, she's my fave character it'll be weird without her!

-- soph (soph.hibberts@mailcity.com), May 05, 2000.

Soph, I was kind of hoping they would come back too sometime, like for the series finale...but since it's 3 years away, I don't know. It's not like people don't visit/keep in touch when they leave in real life. No one's heard from Susan I guess though, so who knows if they'll keep people like Mark in touch with Carol and Doug.

-- Elaine (mrsclooney78@hotmail.com), May 05, 2000.

It sure did get me worried. Oh my God! But the fact that next week is an ER to cherish is keeping me hopeful for a warm departure, nothing jarring or completely upsetting. I was surprised how little attention the animal crackers got. Yup, he sent me crackers. Although it could have reminded her once again how much her life has changed and why she's so unhappy.

-- Joanne (bucklind@hotmail.com), May 05, 2000.

Joanne, I think you're right about the crackers reminding Carol how much her life has changed and why she's so unhappy. We already knew this, but the gift and it's meaning proves what a deep, committed, loving, fun, and caring relationship Doug & Carol have/had.

I'm just wondering where she put it? In the old days it would've been kept in the lounge and some people would've stumbled across it, questioned it, and word would have spread. *sigh* The good ol' days...

-- Arianne (CarolRossSusanGreene@yahoo.com), May 05, 2000.

I hope that with Carol's departure she interacts with the old cast members who have been with her for 6 years. I don't want to see her with Luka all that much.... it would mean more seeing her have a powerful scene with the people she has gone through everything with. Also it would be nice if they showed back to previous years with memorable Carol scenes like the twist and shout one.

-- Lizzy Lou (iluver@hotmail.com), May 05, 2000.

Lizzy, I agree, Carol's most emotional scenes should and naturally would be with the older "ER" cast members. These people were there when Doug cheated on her, they saved her life when she wanted to end it all. They were there for her non-wedding, when her boyfriend's best friend was dying, after she was involved in a hostage situation. They were there when she got engaged, they were there to share in the joy of discovering she was carrying twins, they were there when she had her daughters. These are the people she shares some of her most heartbreaking and her most joyful memories with. Carol has been through so much with her coworkers by her side, I'd love if this were acknowledged.

-- Arianne (CarolRossSusanGreene@yahoo.com), May 05, 2000.

It is ridiculous to think that she would commit suicide. There is absolutly no way they would do that. Thats how she started the show out. Theyd never do that now. Everyone loves her. If theres going to be a suicide, it will be Carter. The strain of the incident will become too much for him. I think she goes to Doug, thats what everyone wants. They will get it. Will he show up or not is the question. Is she leaving this week coming and not in the final show of the season?

-- Tom Andrews (princethomas@hotmail.comq), May 06, 2000.

I hope she doesn't commit suicide. It would be nice to see her with the old cast a bit more then with the others, though a few scenes with Luka and Abbey (more Luka) would be nice, but it'd be more emotional with the interaction with the whole cast.

-- Dawn (dawine@home.com), May 06, 2000.

Tom, just because it's what "everyone" wants, doesn't mean they'll get it. I personally think an ending like that would be just too perfect, too fairy-tale, and not very interesting. I still think suicide is a possibility, what with her "I hate my life" attitude last week, but even if she doesn't kill herself, she probably won't get back together with Doug. What kind of a show would this be if the writers caved in to whatever romantic bedtime stories the viewers say they want? I say, give us realistic stories, some of which don't have happy endings. That's what life is like.

-- Cecelia (evilstoat@hotmail.com), May 06, 2000.

I don't think that the articles are referring to Carol committing suicide. She has too much to live for, ie, her daughters!!! In some articles that i've read (Possible spoiler coming up!) the season finale seems to centre around Carter 'losing it' and disappearing and leaving staff wondering if hes committed suicide (And the audience - we dont find out until the next season!) - imho i think thats what they are refering to when they say that there could be another suicide!

-- Vicki Baker (ms_peachy_pie@hotmail.com), May 07, 2000.

Tom, why would Carter commit suicide unless he was leaving the show? He's my favorite character somebody please straighten out this rumor!

-- Lauren (whateverchick@aol.com), May 08, 2000.

I read that Noah Wyle had signed on through 2004. Also, it would be suicidal on the part of TPTB to kill off their most popular character.

-- Felicity (felicity08@juno.com), May 08, 2000.

I agree with everyone who said they want to see Carol interact with the old cast. Maybe one little goodbye scene with Luka, but the rest should focus on her last day at the ER. It seems so weird, no one knows she's leaving, so they have to fit it into one show...although that's the way they always do it. I know that her saying goodbye individually to everyone would be too redundant, but I hope she gives personal goodbyes (that we see) to people like Mark, Elizabeth, Carter, the nurses. I wish there were this much hype when GC left. I mean, I know there was, but not on the SHOW, with a goodbye to an old friend theme. It was just basically: he did something crappy and only Carol and Mark are going to say goodbye or miss him. And even Mark's goodbye to him was bigger than Carol's.

-- Elaine (mrsclooney78@hotmail.com), May 08, 2000.

Thanks for the info Felicity. I have to agree, that show would go majorly downhill if Noah left. Maybe Carter's depression attitude just had a lot of people worried. He'll get over it. (Get over it, Carter!)
