"No Clooney" says exec prod. John Wells

greenspun.com : LUSENET : ER Discussions : One Thread

Check out an article on the CNN page where executive producer John Wells says we are in for some "jaw dropping" excitement on ER this month, but no return of Doug. (www.cnn.com/2000/SHOWBIZ/TV/05/04/may.sweeps/)

I don't think she's going to go to Doug after all. I think she's going to just take the girls, hit the road and start life anew...

Well, it doesn't exactly say that he's not coming back, just that there was only one conversation about it. I guess it was an indication, but NO ONE has come straight out and said "No". I do doubt he is coming back, but I will be EXTREMELY disappointed if Carol doesn't go back to Doug. She has to. Her whole life is here; she has 2 babies, she can't just pick up and leave and go ANYWHERE, without a promise of stability (i.e. a job) for her children. The only place she could go is to Seattle. JMHO.

My thoughts echo Elaine's. Doug obviously still has a hold on her, just watch her face when she talking about their Animal Crackers tradition - - she's very touched that he thought of that and was so sentimental. As a single mother with twin daughters, it would be very difficult for her two just pick up and leave Chicago without the promise of at least a house. Carol loves her work, and her daughters, and she does love Doug. He's the missing link that will make the picture whole again.

I agree with Elaine and Arianne. After last nights epi and the "i hate my life" scene...the only thing that will help her situation is to reunite with Doug (or find another father for her twins...if she weren't leaving the show I think she would be getting together with Luka. He would definitely love the girls and be a good father to them. But since Julianna is leaving I think it will be to go to Doug).

Maybe Kerry is going to find Carol a whole, whole, whole lot of extra sick time and she's just going to go on permanent leave! :)

I agree with the above. I think she'll go with Doug (I knew that the instant the animal crackers came in) whether GC shows up or not.

I thought that it would have been interesting, and sweet, if there was a ring in the box from Doug, with the animal crackers.

I might be totally off in left field but I thought Carol already had a ring from Doug. Maybe I dreamed it? Anyone else?

-- Diana (dilynne@juno.com), May 06, 2000.

there was a ring that she wore for a while, but then she stopped wearing it. i don't really remember the details, but i'm sure someone else around here does

I think I'm alone, but I totally hate Doug Ross. Leaves Carol in Chicago pregnant with twins, unattached yet attached. Tess and Kate need some type of father figure. Luka would be fantastic. Carol's leaving.

By now we know that John Wells is an awfully good liar. Way to go John!!!

Way to go, John Wells!! Thanks for keeping it a secret. :-)

About the ring -- Doug proposed to Carol on Christmas Eve, 1997. He didn't have a ring then (it was done on impulse, which makes the last scene in "SSS" even *more* fitting), but an episode or two later we see Doug fitting Carol's finger for a ring. Shortly after that an engagement ring appeared, and she wore it into the seventh or eighth month of her pregnancy.
