The title says it all: What sort of music *do* you like?!

It's downright AWFUL of you to make up this topic, Tim! I don't usually post any replies, but with this topic-I kind of HAD to. Right. Well, I live in the US, but I like Britpop and indie. I'm a fan of Blur, Radiohead, Belle & Sebastian, but then on the American indie side, I'm into Sonic Youth and Pavement. SO, I'm a sucker for melodic whimsy and I like pop, but not THAT (Steps, S Club 7) kind of pop. So, I'm alternative/indie/britpop girl. It's kind of fun. ALL the other bands or musicians that I listen to, but haven't mentioned yet are Ben Folds Five, the Super Furry Animals, Rufus Wainwright, Semisonic, Graham Coxon, Pulp, Ooberman, bob hund, Travis, Air, Yo La Tengo, and Beck. There are more, I'm sure. Some of this stuff I don't think I'd like as much if it wasn't for the fact that I don't live in England because I really don't go for bands that are too popular-I'm not exactly sure why. I don't dislike bands because they're popular, it's just that I think that my subconscious likes to choose the musicians out there that people aren't really talking about where I live. So...that's my type of music.

The people I doubt I'll ever get tired of include U2, Guster and Jeff Buckley.

Other stuff I like (but am not "well-versed" in, I guess) are The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Liz Phair, Massive Attack, Portishead, R.E.M., Jonny Lang, Stephen Fearing, Incubus, some 80's stuff (I like the Clash, especially), Beck, Jamiroquai (not their latest cd though), Medeski Martin and Wood, Propellerheads (wow!!), Smashing Pumpkins, Squirrel Nut Zippers.

Phew. I'm pretty mainstream, I guess.

A variety. Mainly 1950's-70's though - rock'n'roll, the Beatles, ABBA, you get the idea. Modern stuff, most of it I don't like, except for a few decent groups - the Corrs, Shania Twain, etc.

And by the way, Tim, I finally replied to the 'The Letter' thread (just if you were wondering, you know). I don't think you'll like the reply , though.

Wahey! My first ever post on a notice board. I must say, Radiohead are great. So there. Er, Christ this is pathetic. Sorry for taking up room on your notice board. Won't happen again. Oh, Therapy are quite good.

Radiohead is always a good answer. And then there's all of the wonderful other European boys; Travis, Blur, Placebo, etc, etc. I dig Tori Amos about as much as Fiona Apple. Benfolds five.. yummy. Smashing Pumpkins, STP, Nirvana; all that grungy type of rock. I also go for some of the older stuff: the Clash, some Rolling Stones, ALWAYS the Beatles, the Cars, Siouxsie. Ahh. 80's new wave. Ok. I'm done babbling. [for now.]
