Ok....all done. Everyone's tucked in and off to dreamland. So, I'll finish up now.

Gen. 10:25 "One was named Peleg, because in his time the earth was divided..."

What does that mean or refer to? Divided?

Hi, jackiea. Another doozie (but I like it).

Peleg was the great-grandson of Noah's favored son, Shem. According to a footnote in the RSV, the word "peleg" meant "division."

Notice first that you are quoting from the final verses of chapter 10 of Genesis, wherein a genealogy is being given.
Notice next that Chapter 11 begins with the narrative concerning the Tower of Babel, the outcome of which was ... the "division" of the people, who were scattered all over the earth by the Lord, after they began to speak in multiple languages.

Thus I understand your verse (10:25), jackiea, to be stating that Peleg lived at the time of this chaotic event.

[O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to you.]
John
