so - poof - Carol is gone?

Am I correct in assuming that JM won't be on any future episodes? Will she just fade away never to be mentioned again (kinda like Lucy?)or do you think there will be discussion about what she did in the finale? I kinda think it lacked closure after all the hype. Did she give notice? Did they give her a going away party? Did Doug help her move? What happened to her house? How did her mom take the news of her moving to be with Doug - if in fact that's what she did? Remember, we are just assuming what happened after the kiss. Is Mark OK losing someone else close to him so soon after the death of his father? Just some thoughts...

Jan...my words exactly! I am grateful for the ending, but she HAS to come back for her girls (W/ Doug!?) I'm sure she will be mentioned next week (maybe that her AND DOUG came back for them!?) At first I was hopeful from whoever said she "leaves twice" and "Clooney will be in the May 18 episode" but I doubt it. I want her to say goodbye. I was upset Doug wasn't seen with his girls, but I'm glad it gives her an excuse to go back. I am still recovering from this!

What found funny was when Weaver said if you can't follow the rules then maybe you shouldn't be working here...hmmm isn't that what she (Weaver) said to Doug????? just a thought.

Not to mention, as she was walking out of the ER (as we saw all week in the previews), all I could think was, this is the last we'll see of her here! SUCH SWEET SORROW...very fitting! The whole theme this month was "a goodbye to a friend"...well where was the goodbye!? We don't even see it! But gosh, it was good to see Doug again! I can't stop watching it!

I was thinking about that too...someone has to come back for Tess and Kate, then I remembered reading on E! online about George Clooney being on the season finale. So I'm thinking that maybe Doug will come back to get the twins and Carol will be mentioned but not shown in the episode. It's a long shot, I know...but stranger things have happened! :)

Ok, so I know what the deal about Carol is, and, as much, I expected a sobfest. but... when the episode started, and I saw Carter, not Carol, I cried - for about 55 minutes straight ... now that's sweet sorrow.

BTW, I bawled when I saw Doug -- Thank God, Bless you NBC

I'd like to see Mark & Elizabeth get married next season, and Doug and Carol come back for the wedding.

Didn't they mention (someone mentioned) that Carol would be leaving twice? Didn't we hear that somewhere? So maybe she will be on next weeks episode to say goodbye to everyone.

God, I hope so. . . then I can be a blubbering mess all day next Friday, too!

I don't know guys...from the previews next week I can't imagine that they would be on and even mentioned that much. I think it is going to be focused on Carter. We may have to wait until next season to find out any more!

I had hopes about that too, but I think that whoever said that meant that she will, off camera, leave two times. I doubt she or GC would come back, there would be speculation about it now.

What I did want to mention is very trivial, but kind of a "Carol/JM" gesture to Haleh, when she put her hand on her arm for a moment as she was hurrying off. So sad, with us knowing that this is the last interaction we will see with her and another nurse.

-- Elaine (mrsclooney78@hotmail.com), May 13, 2000.

Elaine, I did notice Carol's gesture, putting her hand on Haleh's arm. It seemed to be a, "Don't worry, everything's fine. Everything's * finally* fine," since everybody seemed worried.

As much as I love Doug & Carol, I almost don't want her to return alone in the Season Finale. I love that our last image of these two on "ER" is them happily wrapped in each others' arms. :-) We know that her goodbye with Mark will be teary, and I'm fine with it happening off- screen because then Doug can be there, too. They're going to have to deal with finding a new charge nurse, so hopefully some of this will take place on-screen.

I'd suspect there will be some mention of Carol next week, either in saying someone is filling her shift or taking over her duties or things are going as smoothly without her, something like that. And hopefully we'll hear in that scene how everyone misses her and is happy for her. But I think her coming back for the babies, moving, etc. will definitely be off screen. We've seen the last of JM and GC for a while, if not forever.

Just read an article quoting Wells as saying that JM/GC won't be on any future episodes, period. That is actually fine with me. The image of him sweeping her off the ground is a wonderful memory that will last. I can use my imagination to know that they'll (of course) come back for the babies, put the house on the market, pack up, heck maybe have the hospital gang over for a BBQ. Not everything has to be spelled out. Certainly we'll hear snippets now and then--they'll get married, probably have a dozen kids, and I think those things will be casually commented upon--at least I hope so.

About 45 minutes into the show the thought occured to me that if someone had been living in a hole for a while and had no clue that JM was leaving, they still probably wouldn't pick up on her leaving even if they watched the episode. It was like we have five minutes left, she needs to leave, so let's just shove her out to Seattle with her saying goodbye to practically no one. The storyline didn't have too much closure, there were a lot of things that were left unanswerd.

-- Cai (mohawk@xmission.com), May 13, 2000.

Cai, someone living in a hole might think Doug is coming back to the show! I hadn't considered that. It would have to be a pretty BIG hole, but then I'd bet there are people who didn't know JM was leaving.
