If you photograph an animal on the endangered species list should you use an extinction meter?

Absolutely, it's a must! Incident meters won't work, simply because the incidence of meeting a specimen are far too low.

Yes, and an enhancing filter on the lens.

You should also be absolutely certain to take the picture, and not shoot it! If you can get it into mass reproduction, so much the better.
