Where's Noah Wyle's ranch?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : ER Discussions : One Thread

Okay, I know that Noah Wyle got married on the new ranch he bought from Bo Derek in Santa Monica or Santa something, and I am assuming that this is the one he is talking about with Jay Leno with the goats and stuff, but the thing is, didn't he tell him "it's upnorth from here"? Isn't the Tonight Show in NY? Did I hear that wrong or am I mixing something up or something? Where is their ranch? (not a big deal, but it is just bothering me!)

If I'm not mistaken, he said it was located in the Santa Ynez valley. Which is a little south and east from Santa Barbara. (I think, I'll have to recheck my map, if I'm wrong, I'll let you know.) Michael Jackson has property in the area as well. A lot of "stars" have property in the area. Santa Barbara and the environs are considered "up north" by Los Angelenos (of which NW can include himself, being a native of the area.) And it's usually where Los Angelenos go to get away. It is a really nice area. Santa Barbara is gorgeous and the weather is great. I went to school there, so I know.

The Tonight show is based in Burbank.

To answer your questions Elaine, the Tonight Show with Jay Leno is filmed in Burbank, California...I think you were thinking of Late Night with David Letterman which is filmed in New York. The San Ynez Valley where his ranch is, (and someone can correct me if I'm wrong) I think is near Santa Barbara California which is about 2 hours from Los Angeles. VERY nice there! :)

Correction from me. I'm embarrassed because I should know this. Santa Ynez are MOUNTAINS, not a valley. And they are due north of Santa Barbara. The main highway, U.S. 101 runs along the coast through Santa Barbara on an east/west course, thats the way the coastline runs in that part of the state. It turns south again and heads into LA and Hollywood.

That's probably more than you ever wanted to know.

Thanks S.Trelles for the correction...frikkin' People magazine giving me wrong information again! :) heehee.

I believe in the interview with Jay Leno, Noah said that their ranch was up in the mountains. He said that the "bottomland" used to be most valuable (for farming I suppose) but that the people who know about these things advised him to buy "topland." I guess this is the new fashionable place to be for rich people escaping LA. Mountain land would explain the goats, too.

Another small reminiscence from me.

I got to thinking. In spite of the high price of property in the area, it's still a fire trap. When I was in school, a huge firestorm broke out up there near Painted Cave. It went down through the town of Santa Barbara, and if I'm not mistaken, right on to the Pacific, where it stopped. My roommate and I could see the smoke from our apartment near the University. So stars aren't immune to the whims of nature.

Just my musings...
