Source: Buffalo News Publication date: 2000-05-12
A raccoon's fatal misstep sparked a traffic backup at the Canada- U.S. border early Thursday.
The raccoon tangled with electrical wires at the Queenston- Lewiston Bridge at about 3:40 a.m. The resulting power failure led to the slowdown. The incident forced customs officers to funnel incoming traffic through a single lane.
Motorists traveling into Canada between 7 and 8 a.m. experienced about a 20-minute delay, a spokeswoman for the Canada Customs and Revenue Agency said. Workers restored power by 8 a.m.
