Carter and Curtain Area 3

greenspun.com : LUSENET : ER Discussions : One Thread

Did anyone else notice that the "confrontation" at the end of the show between the staff and Carter took place in the same Curtain area 3 where Carter and Lucy were attacked? Did you also notice that Carter was spotted self-medicating in the same trauma room (the green room) where the doctors worked on Carter after the attack? This is exactly the type of attention to subtle detail that continues to keep me interested in this show.

On another note, I have noticed several postings where people are hoping the "old Carter" will be back next season. This may not be a realistic expectation. I think the old Carter may have died that night in Curtain Area 3. Even though I have always been a Carter fan, it may be time for a new, older and wiser Carter to emerge next season. No one can go through what his character has gone through and not come out changed. It should be interesting to see where writers will take him next.

nancy, i thought that it was the same room where the attack occured, but i was not sure. i was going to check my tape, but you've confirmed it for me. i really thought that was a very good little detail to have in the show. kind of like that's where it all started, so that was a perfect place to confront him.

I don't think we will expect him to ever go back to being the young, fresh faced, bright eyed student that he was before. But I just want to see him at least be happy again and recover from all this and make peace with it. It would be nice to see his old friendly personality come back, at least.

I, too, think that Carter will never be the same again; how could he be? I would like to see the funny-loving, happy guy back, too, but I realized, watching May Day again, that he had slipped into playacting the part of that guy. Whatever he's like next season, I hope he's real; doesn't hide his emotions and pain and pretend everything's all right. Poor Carter!

I noticed, too, that they were in curtain area 3. I mentioned it to my roommate, but she could have cared less. I'm so glad we have this site to come to! :)

No . Carter will not be the exact same person he was before. Mark changed after his beating. That's not to say that after Carter recovers he will be worse than the Carter he was before. I do think that niave Carter is gone. However, I think we will still see sweet, caring, compassionate Carter again.I think deep down we still saw that part of Carter. It was just being overshadowed by other stuff. I think eventually we will see him happy again. I think Carter will be a bit more serious and mature. He was heading that way anyway the past few years though he will be in a different ways. I think we will see professional and personal growth out of Carter when it is all said and gone. Carter will be similar , yet different. The biggest differnce is that Carter will no longer be niave about the world and people, but I don't think he will become jaded. He will be more realistic about things. I do hope he learns to open up and share things with people he can trust. i think he will. Indon't mind Carter no longer being niave. I loved season one Carter, but I loved the more mature season six( before attack) Carter who had lost most of niavete and was more mature.

Carter's eyes already have a different look to them, not jaded, just.....seen too much? I can't really put it into words very well. His face no longer looks like a kid's. I always thought of him as barely past adolescence(sp?), and now he looks positively late-thirty- something. It's almost eerie. Michele

Responding to the original post, wasn't Carter standing in the same spot Paul Sobricki was while he was waiting for Carter??

Oh my God, El, I think you're right! How eerie!!!!

Carter's eyes have a tired look, not physically so much as emotionally and mentally...and a hurt look too. The word weary comes to mind. I think the super short hair--darn Fail Safe :)--makes him look older.

brenda, you are right on. our naive , cute carter is "growing up"...snif..... anyhow, he will have this experience under hisb elt, and maybe be able to talk to addicted patients that come into County. he will have more sympathy for them, and he will understand them, and maybe he will be able to help them better than any of the other doctors would be able to.

I hadn't even noticed that that was Curtain area 3...although they do show the little sign as Kerry is walking out to go get Carter for the confrontation. I bet the writers just threw that in to see if the diehard fans would notice, and go oooooh, tough place for Carter. Carter *did* hesitate a bit as he looked at the door and Kerry put her hand on his back to get him to go inside. But then he was probably just wondering why they were going in this specific room, as was I as I watched it. Good observing Nancy.

Nancy, I noticed that too. I was going, "geez, that's a little harsh!". I wonder if, as someone mentioned above, the writers do that just to have a little fun with us die-harders.

Curtain Area 3 must be cursed!!! Carter and Lucy got stabbed, Carol broke Luka's heart, the confrentation in May Day, and it blew up in Rescue Me.
