Power unit 3 at Ukraine's Rovno nuclear power station has been taken offline, Interfax news agency reported on Friday, quoting an official in the public relations department of Energoatom, the national nuclear power generating company. The VVER-1000 reactor was shut down at 1858 hours, local time, on Thursday night for the repair of a malfunctioning steam generator. The repairs are expected to be completed by 4th June.

Nine out of 14 Ukrainian nuclear power units are currently under repair, Interfax said. These include the first and sixth units at Zaporozhye, Rovno's unit 3, and the first and second units of the Southern Ukrainian nuclear power station.

Radiation levels around all Ukrainian nuclear power stations were reported to be normal.
