No one hurt in emergency landing

GREEN Twenty-two passengers aboard a US Airways Express flight got a scare Friday afternoon when their plane made an emergency landing at the Akron-Canton Regional Airport.

The aircraft had been traveling from Indianapolis to Toronto.

The captain was forced to divert to the nearest airport when a warning light indicated a possible engine fire.

No fire was discovered and the Saab 340 turbo prop landed safely, said David Castelveter, spokesman for Arlington, Va.,-based flyer.

No injuries were reported among the passengers or three-person crew.

US Airways sent another plane from Pittsburgh to pick up the stranded passengers.

Diverting the plane at the nearest airport is standard procedure in such instances. The engine is turned off.

We dont want to take any chances, Castelveter said.

The aircraft landed about 2 p.m. Rescue crews responded to the runway.
