5/19/00 - AT LEAST THREE KILLED IN EXPLOSION AT VENEZUELAN POWER PLANT

Caracas, May 19, 2000 (EFE via COMTEX) -- At least three workers were killed Friday by an explosion at an electrical power generation plant in the city of Maracaibo, 700 kilometers (about 435 miles) west of Caracas, authorities said.

The cause of the midday accident remains unclear.

The plant, which employs 200 people, belongs to the state-owned company Enleven and provides electricity to northwestern Venezuela. EFE
