http://www.khou.com/news/stories/2661.html Continental Jet Returns To LAX; Passengers Describe Engine Flames9:04 am May 25, 2000 Los Angeles -- Continental Airlines says electrical problems forced a plane to return to the Los Angeles airport Wednesday night shortly after takeoff. However, some of the passengers say one of the engines was on fire. No one was hurt. The plane was bound for Houston with 133 people aboard. A spokeswoman for the Houston-based airline says electrical problems forced the captain to shut down one of the engines. She says the plane landed safely without a fire being reported. But one passenger tells a Los Angeles TV station (KCOP) that before the plane hit cruising altitude, the right engine started making noise and flaming and the aircraft was shaking. Another passenger says he saw flames about five-feet long shooting out of the engine. (Copyright 2000 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)
