Were did you read the story Pete?
The Journal this morning says BR hasn't given up hope of prising Duff away from Blackburn, even though we've been told that him and Jansen aren't for sale as Graham Souness intends to rebuild the team these two, plus another couple of kids.
Have you read somewhere that we've offered #8mm for Duff? He's a good, young, and importantly left-sided, Irish born player, but #8mm seems steep - certainly #8mm for both Duff and Jansen would be great business. I like them both.

England: News Friday May 26, 2000, 8:35 PM London Time Duff's #8m tag shocks Newcastle By John Richardson Newcastle have been quoted a staggering #8million by Blackburn following their attempt to sign Republic of Ireland winger Damien Duff.

It is clear that while Graeme Souness is prepared to off-load a number of the club's under-achieving players like Christian Dailly, Callum Davidson and Keith Gillespie, Duff doesn't fall into that category.

The 21-year-old impressed manager Bobby Robson when the clubs met in the FA Cup, but he has been taken aback by Rovers' price tag. However, there is still a chance there will be business done with the Geordies being told they would have better luck if they switched their sights to Matt Jansen.

The England Under 21 striker is a big Newcastle fan and almost joined them from Carlisle after being invited to spend a few days training. Jansen was also invited to Old Trafford only for both clubs to sit back and allow Crystal Palace to take him.

Blackburn brought him back to the North for more than #4m, but he has not commanded the Ewood Park stage and would be made available if Newcastle allowed two of their players to head in the opposite direction.

Souness has admitted interest in Georgian striker Temuri Ketsbaia and defender Andy Griffin. Ketsbaia will be sold in the summer.

Derby and Fulham want to sign Newcastle's French defender Laurent Charvet, who is valued at #1m.

Thanks Pete.
This is clearly Blackburn's alternative way of saying "**ss off"!What's beginning to emerge is BR's desire to bring in young talent to rebuild the team for the long term.

Ketsbaia plus 5 million + sell Marcelino for 4.5 = Duff Good move I would say and imho we have lost little ...even if Marcelino is better than he has shown us we had bugger all.
