THE price of petrol has topped pounds 4 a gallon in some parts of Scotland, it was revealed yesterday. The average price for unleaded in Scotland is pounds 3.68 but in some rural areas it has risen to more than pounds 4.

The weak pound, high tax levels and expensive world oil prices have been blamed.

Yesterday, an SNP spokesman urged the Government to prevent unfair pricing for rural Scots.

He said: "We deplore the high prices being imposed on Scots and are calling for the Government to urgently look into petrol pricing."
