Rare cattle organization?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Before adding any livestock to my farm I always do extensive research on the existing breeds that one might consider and why. Somewhere along the line I remember reading about a breed of cattle that was used extensively in Germany before the wars called Morden-Weurdenfels or something like that. I have since lost my reference for these cattle. My understanding was that these were very rare, almost extinct. Does anyone know of an organization of breeders of rare types of cattle that I could contact?

William,

Oklahoma State University has a great site on livestock breeds. Go to www.ansi.okstate.edu/BREEDS/cattle. Click on the breed you are interested in and somewhere within that site will be a link to a breeders directory. They have other livestock besides cattle. Check it out.

There is also the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy. I've got to run, so don't have time to look up the url right now -- if you can't find it, someone will probably post it!!

You might also check out the Cdn site at www.beefinfo.org -- site for a subgroup of the Canadian Cattlemen's Association. Someone there might be able to help you -- they're quite knowledgable.
