SD-9 still at work!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Central of Georgia Railway Historical Soc : One Thread

For you early CofG diesel fans or anyone else with an interest, be advised that at least one of the SD-9's is still working as NS #55, and feeling right at home at Industry Yard in southwest Atlanta. I have a May 31st photo taken off the web I'd be glad to pass along to anyone who writes.

SD-9 Number 55 Appears on live TV!!!

The infamous Central engine that wouldn't die also has made a surprise appearance on WSB-TV in Atlanta recently.

A couple of weeks ago channel 2 had a news crew out at the Lakewood MARTA station to do a followup segment on some idiot who had scaled the fence to get run over and smushed by a MARTA commuter train. As the channel 2 news monkey was standing there spewing drama into the microphone a diesel air horn suddenly rang out. And then, right behind him, good old 55 comes chugging along, pulling a string of auto parts cars southward, probably toward the Ford plant. Quite amazing when you consider that the same engine probably came along in that same location about 45 years ago, long before there was a Lakewood MARTA station or MARTA rail service and probably before that particular news monkey was even born.
