Too many main characters!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : ER Discussions : One Thread

I think that for season 7 they should cut down the amount of main characters.I think that the characters they should keep are... Mark,Carter,Kerry,Luka,Elizabeth and Dave.I think that Romano should become a supporting character as too much Romano can be so annoying. One person they really need to get rid of is Cleo and I think that a new med student is needed as Abby has endangered too many lives!!!!

They could do that but look what happened when Chicago Hope did that. They're gone for good now. But I don't think ER would ever have to worry about that, right?

I think that Abby is here to stay. TPTB are subliminly setting up pre- relationship stuff between her and Carter, eg. The rare occasion of er staff smoking...Abby and Carter are the only two who I remember smoking this season. Abby was the last person Carter talked to before he was stabbed, she told on his drug use and though it annoyed him she sort of saved him. Also Carter gave Abby the 'dont worry, you'll get use to it speech' which Mark gave him on the first day.Think it sounds far-fetched, Remember there was drug use in Carters family, but even when Deb asked about his family history in relation to depression it didnt click with me until May Day.

I think that what they have is enough and they are handling it very well. They've already downsized quite a bit and I think that they already have lost a lot of Carol/Lucy fans. I don't know, but I think ER was better with Carol and Lucy (before Carol went downhill). Anyway I think that ER far surpasses Chicago Hope and that those peoples know what they are doing.

I think that ER would be better w/ ALL of the old characters (Doug, Carol, Susan, Jeannie) and Lucy, a newer one, but since they're gone, I don't really mind *any* of the really new characters anymore. I wouldn't want to see Abby leave; she is pretty important in Carter's situation and I want her to be there for his return. Deb and Dave I really want to see form close friendships w/ Carter, and Luka is just too interesting a character to get rid of. I don't mind Cleo, but if they want to keep her they need to give more to her story. Romano does seem like more of a supporting role...he's not even in every show, but they should keep him around.

Hey Steph...what about Benton?

Maybe the 2% drop in viewers was the Carol/Lucy fans. Lucy,Carol and Carter are/were my fav characters, but I would never stop watching ER if people I liked left.

Ooops...sorry Elaine I think Benton rocks!

I don't think you're insane! Romano's the funniest character in the show! He provides great light relief!

I'm for Deb going bye-bye...again! Why, oh why, did they ever bring her back in the first place! They were rid of her, for goodness sakes.

If I must be the lone Deb fan, so be it! I am getting rather tired of the new character bashing on various web sites, this one included. A show cannot be successful without the support of its fans. Deb, Dave, Abby, and yes even Cleo deserve a chance. Personally, they are a breathe of fresh air IMO. Carol & Doug brought a soap opera element to the show that I disliked. Jeanie's character was dead in the water as soon as they gave her the HIV storyline. I personally can't wait to see what the creators have in store for the new characters next season.

I like many of the new characters, especially Luka, but also Dave and Abby. I also liked Lucy and wouldn't mind the Cleo character except I don't think she's well acted. Deb isn't really a new character, but a returning one, who was written out after less than one season (I think that's right but might be wrong, but I'm sure it was less than two!). And as far as other characters who've been brought on since the first season, I like Kerry, Romano (love to hate him!), and Elizabeth (most of the time) as well. I know some people have a difficult time with change and might bash new characters, and I agree with you, Anne, that new characters are absolutely necessary for ER, my favorite TV show, to survive. But there are sometimes characters all of us don't like and more and more, for me, it's Deb. It's not because she's "new" though, because she isn't.

I have very few problems with the new characters. However, it would be better if they were given some storylines, afterall we do want to know who they are. What do we know so far? Not that much. While some characters have been develop (i.e. Luka), others are given two lines an episode. Even though some people don't enjoy Dave I definatly think that he has great potential. Afterall what guy in his mid-twenties isn't cocky (at least in some way). One of the things that I enjoyed about Doug's character was that he transitioned from being a jerk to someone viewers loved. I think a similar transformation will occur with Dave.

Hey more people should write on this page now. Everyone wrote on here so long ago. It has to be updated. I like Dr. Ramano too. I love everyone on ER except for Luka.
