Rosie vs. Reality: What Every Woman Must Know

Suppose a Hollywood star or a political figure publicly announced that he or she favored making all women and families helpless and defenseless against vicious thugs. Would women cheer and vow their undying support for that person?

Yet if you believe the published polls and the media news showmen, then it's true: women actually want to be defenseless. Many women don't want to be able to protect themselves or their families from crazies, druggies, violent ex-boyfriends, rapists, home invaders and stalkers. What's more, these women want to prevent other women from protecting themselves, too.

When some women say they want more "gun control," they are actually saying they want to make it harder for peace-loving women to obtain personal and home defense tools. All current and proposed "gun laws" work to discourage firearm ownership. Except for the shall-issue concealed carry rules in some states, none of the "gun laws" does anything to help an endangered woman obtain a firearm and learn how best to use it for self-defense.

Facts About Self-Defense

For the woman who values the safety of herself and her family, a firearm can be literally a lifesaver. Here are the facts:

Americans use firearms to protect themselves over 5,000 times per day -- that's over 3 defensive uses every minute.

Over 500 women use firearms to defend themselves against sexual assault or abuse each day -- that's one woman protected every 3 minutes.

In over 92% of defensive gun use cases, the victim brandished the firearm arm or fired a warning shot only -- no wounding or killing was involved.

Research has shown it is safer to defend against violent attack using a firearm than to resist with other means such as wielding knives, hitting back, or running away.

National Safety Council data for 1995 show the number of accidental deaths involving firearms misuse are far less than those resulting from accidents involving falls, poison, drowning and fires. This is especially true for children age 14 and under.

Regional and national studies confirm that criminals avoid targets (men, women, homes, buildings) where the potential victims might be armed.

Bottom line: Armed citizens are safer.

What can the anti-self defense lobby and the government offer to protect women? Let's check the options:

Tell Women The Truth

Don't ask women whether they favor more "gun control" laws. Ask them instead: "do you favor laws that prevent women from protecting themselves and their families from violent criminals?" Women need to understand that the real issue is self-defense. Every three minutes there is a woman defending herself with a sidearm.

Violence against women is immoral, illegal and intolerable. That's why it's wrong to disarm women and leave them defenseless against predators.

Too many numbers,statistics and sources..I don't have time to read this,I'm very busy being a star and being the voice of the American woman..don't bother me, just believe when I tell you...guns are bad, they kill kids every minute of the day..nobody should possess guns..well maybe my kids bodyguard...

Yeah, yeah, and since they took away "everybody's" handguns in Australia, armed robberies with handguns are up 44%.

Rosie is correct that if nobody had a gun, nobody could use one to commit a crime. Rosie *may* be correct in assuming that if all guns were confiscated whenever possible and NO new ones could be sold in any market (including black), then in 4 or 5 decades crimes with guns would diminish. Gotta take the long view, you know.

But what about recreational uses of guns such as collecting, hunting, competitions, or plinking? I guess we don't need such dangerous recreations, when we have croquet as an alternative?

Nothing is more reasonable than a shared prejudice. I like my guns.

Although by no means a fan of Rosie, I must state that these threats against her child demonstrate yet again the fanaticism of some movements. I compare this one to the "I'll kill anyone who tries to abort a child" thinkers.

OTOH, stating to the media that the bodyguard hired to protect her child from the threats of some whackos is Unarmed has done nothing but demonstrate her stupidity and threaten the child.

Rosie a nut case, I do believe. My gun are mine and I am going to keep them. I have used them to to protect myself in the pass and I will again if I have too. I have never had to shoot anyone , just a threatened and it worked. I hope I never have to hurt anyone. I will always protect my own. If I don't have a gun, there are other ways.

Fan Shot at Royals-Pirates Game

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- A fan was shot and wounded in the stands at Kauffman Stadium during a Kansas City Royals-Pittsburgh Pirates game, officials said.

Moments later, a second shot struck another fan's chair in the upper deck.

Police said they don't know whether the shots came from inside or outside the stadium.

The fan, Virginia Olsthoorn, 64, of Haysville, Kan., was sitting in the lower level along the right-field line about 10 p.m. Friday when she was hit by a bullet that passed through part of her abdomen and hit her left elbow, said Royals spokesman Jim Lachimia.

The woman was able to walk to the stadium's first-aid station and was taken to Truman Medical Center. The woman was hospitalized overnight and released early Saturday, a hospital spokesman said.

Kansas City police spokesman Sgt. Floyd Mitchell said witnesses reported hearing a ''pop'' and then the woman was hit by the bullet.

Mitchell said a second shot was reported just after 10 p.m. A woman leaning forward in her upper deck seat also heard a loud pop. When she looked back, she saw a hole in her seat and a bullet on the ground behind her. She was uninjured.

Police initially believed the first shot came from a hillside outside the stadium, behind right and center field. But both shots are now under investigation to determine if they were fired from inside or outside the stadium, Mitchell said.

No arrests had been made Saturday.

'Joliette Torturer' gets six years

A man known as "the Joliette Torturer" for the way he abused members of his family has been sentenced to a six-year prison term.

The man, whose name can't be used, is 57. He is the father of 10 children.

He was found guilty last April on 12 charges of assault and death threats against his wife and four of the children.

The man's wife left him in March 1999. She testified he threatened to kill her many times.

The court imposed a lifetime ban on the man owning any firearms.

The saddest thing about Rosie is the brain-dead people that watch her show. Difficult to determine how many they are, but I'll bet their numbers are legion.
