doesn't someone make a residual hypo test kit with which one can test and see how long prints need to be washed? i know it exists, but i can't remember who makes it.

Kodak sells such a solution, but you can also make it yourself. It only requires one chemical: sodium sulfide. I have the formula up on my site at http://unblinkingeye.com/Articles/Archival/archival.html.

Kodak sells another formula that tests for adequate washing. I have that formula also, but it requires two ingredients: acetic acid and silver nitrate.

Greetings,

In addition to what Ed has mentioned, Photographer's Formulary also sells a hypo test kit.

Is the kodak formula archival?

I purchased the Photographer's Formulary version and it says on the package that it is not for archival standards, seems a bit useless to me.

As far as I know, none of the test kits will test to "archival" standards. They are only good for indicating that hypo levels are below a certain amount (I forget what the actual amount is.) You may want to use one of these tests to determine the time you need to was to achieve this level, then double that time.

As I recall, Light Impressions makes a "pen" to test a sheet for residual fixer. I will try to find there web site... Cheers, Scott
