Who's your least favorite character

greenspun.com : LUSENET : ER Discussions : One Thread

I saw a thread for favorite character ans I thought I would do one for least favorite character. Who's your least favorite character on the show. why is he or she your least favorite character? Mine is Cleo. I hate her because she is such a stuck-up, cold-hearted, snobby bi***.

Mark. He bores me to no end.

-- frances christine (lghtmycndl@aol.com), June 15, 2000.

I would have to say Cleo. It seems like she was just thrown in here to be a love interest for Peter but TPTB did not do a good job of developing her or their relationship. She has shown a few good attributes, but for the most part do not give her good story lines and, so far, she does not seem to be acted well. I really want to like Michael Michelle, but so far I just can't.

Cleo, the waffle queen!!

-- Lisa (lisayas@yahoo.com), June 15, 2000.

Cleo Finch, definitely!

-- Stephanie (ERGirl22@aol.com), June 15, 2000.

Deb-Jing-Mei Chen. AAARRRGGGGHHHHH! I hate that charater and also that impossibly snobby head of obstetrics. The one that showed up just in time to do Carol's c-section and gave Mark a hard time while he was in the labor room w/Carol. and was the one who came on to 'save the day' in "love's labour lost." What a bi*$@!

Something I love about ER is how I always liked all the characters. However, I do not like Cleo. I think it's just because she's boring, emotionless and really not that outstanding. Before Cleo it would have to have been Benton, but he's developed even more and I like him more now than I used to.

-- Joanne (bucklind@hotmail.com), June 15, 2000.

Hands down, no contest-Cleo is my least favorite character. I've seen no evidence that Michael Michelle can act, her character is forced and unbelievable as a pediatrician. The women has zero chemistry with kids. No chemistry with Peter. No chemistry with the audience. 'Nuff said.

-- Bev (bev.burris@eer-h.com), June 15, 2000.

My least favorite character is Cleo . Next in line is Chen. I hope ER gets rid of least one of these two characters.

-- Brenda (jckwfan@aol.com), June 15, 2000.

I think it's unanimous--my least favorite character from all of the seasons is...drum roll please... Cleo Finch. Surprise surprise. She shows no emotion and when she tries to show emotion it's forced and unnatural. I'd rather see Benton with Carla than Cleo and I didn't even like Carla that much.

-- Carin Haseltine (cdenisehaze@usa.net), June 15, 2000.

Finch, Finch the Ice Queen B***h! Seriously, I cannot stand this character. Has she ever treated a patient without killing them? Plus, Michael Michelle cannot act at all. Her voice is so monotone, how did the casting director stay awake during her audition? Is that how she got the part? Did he fall asleep and dream she could act?

-- errocks (iluver@hotmail.com), June 15, 2000.

DEB all the way! she's so obsessed with herself!

-- Katie (writegrl@aol.com), June 15, 2000.

Well, my least favorite use to be Deb, but she's kind of growing on me now...atleast she has a heart, unlike that "Ice Queen" Cleo...she's my least favorite now. I would probably like her if TPTB would take another approach with her character...Show us some emotion Cleo!!! :) JMHO

-- Joy (joijoy@webtv.net), June 16, 2000.

Cleo!!!

geez, i can't believe a better actress could not be found to play that part! Michael Michelle is soooo bad. i mean she just sort of says her lines and doesn't get 'into' her character at all.

Cleo could have been a very vital and interesting chracter on 'er'. i just cannot imagine why michael michelle was hired in the first place. she was bad in 'Homicide' and even worse now! Please get rid of her! Yuck.

plus benton needs someone more reliable and mature than her. he's a father and i am yet to see cleo show any affection of reese. she just eats and plays bball. RIVETING!

-- vika (wild_roses@angelfire.com), June 16, 2000.

Cleo and Deb are both a couple of snotty stuck-up bit@hes who think the world revolves around them and that they were sent from heaven above. I used to think I hated Lucy before these two came on board.

-- joy (joygirl01@yahoo.com), June 16, 2000.

Abby is the worst, with Chen following close behind. I also never liked Doug Ross.

-- Annie (GoldenLaur@aol.com), June 16, 2000.

CLEO. When will that mutant computer virus be neutralised? Send her to a far far far far away place. And I kinda like Chen, possibly cause she's a friend to Carter.

-- Catrioina (kitcat_1013@yahoo.co.uk), June 16, 2000.

You know I had a feeling this would be a dumb question. Sounds like everyone wants her gone. That includes me.

-- cammie (rmaelhorn@home.com), June 16, 2000.

I never liked Doug Ross, either. Used to hate Kerry Weaver, too, but now, I adore her. And Luka.

As far as least favorite characters *now*, I think I'd have to say Deb "Jing-Mei" Chen. Get rid of her, please, TPTB.

As for Cleo, I try to cut her some slack. She actually does fairly well in scenes with Luka, but she does need to take some acting lessons. Poor Michael Michele...hope she doesn't surf the net! :)

Least favorite male of the current cast: Peter Benton. He's such a sanctimonious jerk most of the time that even when he does something good (i.e., helping Carter) I find it hard to believe him. He showed some improvement regarding Reese, but...I just don't like him.

-- Miesque (miesque@looksmart.com), June 16, 2000.

Believe it or not; I dislike Elizabeth! But Cleo makes me sick to my stomach with her "acting", so I dunno, they're pretty close...

-- Lauren (whateverchick@aol.com), June 16, 2000.

I don't really have a least favorite character but I can't believe that anyone would dislike the character of Benton. I can't imagine the show without him. He does an amazing job of acting so that we are often very angry with him. But his egocentric character is wonderful. That's why everyone was so touched when he was the one to straighten out Carter. And Kerrie is the same kind of deal. She looks out for #1 (herself) but she has a tender heart. The show would be too sugary if all the characters were little sweeties. We could all just watch Barney and be done with it.

-- vika (wild_roses@angelfire.com), June 17, 2000.

Like everyone else, my least favourite character is Cleo.

Deb/Jing-Mei used to be my least favourite, but I think she's improved heaps.

How about characters we love to hate? Romano would be my top choice, closely followed by Kerry.

-- Rosie (happymoron@hotmail.com), June 17, 2000.

Yes I agree with Cleo as well.

I really did not like Dr. Dave for a long time as well, but near the end of the season he grew on me and I loved the scene where Elizabeth busted him out.

I hope they do something different with Abby too because she's quite annoying right now. (Maura T. was great on Newsradio, which NBC should've kept on the air)

Deb's getting better. She was used well in the last few episodes where she seemingly was the only person worrying about John at all there for a while.

I'd kind of like it if they'd dump Cleo and maybe one other character. I've heard rumors that Pallidino was leaving.

-- Chris Bragg (cdbragg@hotmail.com), June 18, 2000.

Just a comment about why they took "Newsradio" off. I think it was because after Phil Hartman died it just wasn't the same. I don't know how they thought it could go on without him. Well I stopped watching it because of that. That's only my opinion though.

-- Cammie (rmaelhorn@home.com), June 18, 2000.

I guess I'll chime in with my vote for Cleo as least favorite character, with Chen running a close second. I just don't think either of them contributes much to the show. But I doubt that either of them will be leaving: There would very likely be too much of an uproar about there being not enough minority women on the show. Whether they are interesting or not, I have heard comments about this already.

I've also heard the rumors about Palladino leaving, and they probably figure that there are plenty of attractive white males on the show already, so they won't be losing much. I myself don't care for him, he's just comic relief as far as I can tell.

-- Cecelia (evilstoat@hotmail.com), June 18, 2000.

Cleo, definately! I really can't stand her character. She's stuck-up and petty. She doesn't have chemistry with any one (as some one said above). I also don't think that Michael Michele is a good actress. I've also got to say I don't think that the writers have developed her character well at all!

-- Kristal (teetle1@juno.com), June 19, 2000.

Deb is my least favorite character and the fact that I love Dr. Dave and I am so sick of the way he drools over her and she acts all high and mighty has absolutely nothing to do with it! Okay it has everything to do with it but so what! She needs to either get married to Frank the "Super Nurse" or get transferred far far away by her Daddy Warbucks.

Dena :o)

-- Dena (Dnahltz@aol.com), June 20, 2000.

Cleo, absolutely.

-- Felicity (felicity08@juno.com), June 20, 2000.

I could easily live without Cleo or Dave, however Dave doesn't bug me like Cleo does.

-- Phyl (erfan@flash.net), June 20, 2000.

It's no contest. I'm pleasantly indifferent to several characters (Elizabeth, Abby, Luka, and even Mark and Carter, both of whom I liked a lot in the first three seasons), but Cleo is the only one I actually dislike. She's such a bore and a cipher. She would lift right out.

-- Philip Fitzgerald (PlacidDen@aol.com), June 20, 2000.

Gee Phil, is there anyone you do like on "ER"? Why do you even bother to watch it if you hate practically everyone?

-- Andrea (don'thaveone@now.com), June 27, 2000.

Incase you didn't fully read his post, Philip didn't say he hated anyone. The only one he dislikes is Cleo. He's "pleasantly" indifferent to the others. As am I to most remaining characters as well. With Carol gone, I no longer have a favorite character, and there's no one on the show that I love and adore immensely. I like Elizabeth and Luka alot. And I enjoy to an extent, Abby, Chen, and...(I don't wanna hear it)....Cleo. But I never cared for Carter much. Mark is so dull and uninteresting to me. I never warmed up to Kerry or Romano. Malucci is okay in small doses. Never have, never will enjoy Peter. I don't have avid hatred for anyone. There just aren't many I care very m

-- JLS (ewwhatevr@aol.com), June 27, 2000.

Thanks for striking that blow for reading comprehension, JLS. Appreciated.

Oh, and Andie, careful scrutiny of that list of indifferent/disliked characters will reveal that four of the show's current protagonists are not on it. Those are the ones I like. Why didn't I mention them by name? Gee, I don't know. Possibly because the name of the thread is "Who's your least favorite character?"

-- Philip (PlacidDen@aol.com), June 27, 2000.

Since Cleo doesn't really have any storylines other than Peter's black girlfriend, she doesn't really affect me one way or the other. Believe it or not I disliked Doug and Susan. (Although I'm glad she's coming back.) I didn't like Doug because he always tried to defy Kerry (Who I LOVE!) and decided to do things just because they made sense for one patient a.k.a. the ultra-rapid detox on Josh McNeil (Suffer The Little Children, A Hole In The Heart), The whole Ricky Abbott mess (Although I Did like the storyline), and just things like that in general. As Alex Babcock said: "You can't just make up policy as you go along." It's graet that he wanted to help, he just needed to find a legal and/or ethical way to do it. As for Susan, she just irritated Kerry, so, I didn't like her.

-- Teddy (richarr@earthlink.net), June 18, 2001.

I always thought that if you didn't have anything nice to say about someone, then you shouldn't say anything at all. Apparently, however, you folks follow a different drummer...or something like that. But, I admit the temptation is too great, such that even I must contribute my two cents here...Perhaps it's the momentum...And the winner is......................................... ..................................................................... Cleo, followed by Shep and Doug Ross (not necessarily in that order). Cleo, because she does not move me...in any direction. Shep, because I always wondered what Carol saw in him. Doug, because-- like Teddy's June 18, 2001 message--he was mean to Kerry (Whom I ABSOLUTELY ADORE). Doug also had that 'I know I'm cute smile.' Couldn't tolerate it. Sorry to offend anyone...

-- Malik (Texdina@aol.com), August 07, 2001.

Another Kerry fan. I'm surprised.
