By Staff Correspondent

A massive power shortage of about 471 MW disrupted electricity supplies to many places in the country, PDB sources said.

Initially, PDB's generation target for yesterday was 2343 MW against the projected requirement of 2650 MW and it was supposed to allocate 271 MW load-shedding across the country.

But the unexpected shut down of Ghorasal-3 unit which has the generating capacity of 210 MW resulted in severe power crisis across the country, sources added.

Besides, 17 other power generating units out of country's 63 remained shut down yesterday. PDB control room attributed the suspension of power generation at Ghorasal-3 and the other 17 units to 'technical reasons'.

The control room said last night that they were expecting restoration of power generation at Ghorasal-3 unit, which was shut at about 5-30 pm, within a few hours. But the unit remained shut till filing of this report at about 8:30 pm.
