and what's this i hear about marmite?

Kelly and i were grocery shopping the other day and came across a jar of marmite.

She went absolutely apeshit...

you wouldve thought that a jar of marmite once saved her and her family from a sinking ship or something. She just went on and on and on about how good it is and how much she craves it and what goes good with it and how if it were running for president shed vote for it. well not really, but she really did light up like one of them super halogen light bulbs. It must be an english thang...

Woo hoo baby! Personally, I find vegemite tastier than marmite (the imitation English version). In the UAE I had to make do with marmite, but here in Oz I've got the real thing. Ummmmm! I'm making some toast right now... Siobhan, where did you get that bouncy vegemite picture- it's great!

I've never had vegemite or marmite. In fact I'm not quite sure what they are...

Okay - I did make a fuss when I saw the jar. It wasn't quite the scene that Mike described. It tickled my taste buds when I saw it - its been a long time since I've had any.

I think I've had vegemite once - it was a long time ago but from what I remember there wasn't a great deal of difference ... I thought that Vegemite was an imitation of Marmite but I guess I was wrong.

Either way - its good stuff - its also very economical (in England anyway) - its cheap and goes a very long way. My mum sent me a jar from England - the biggest jar you can buy - its huge - it will probably last me for the next few years. I left it in North Carolina and haven't got round to having the rest of my boxes sent to me.

I will introduce Mike to the wonders of yeast extract as soon as I get my stuff sent....

(Quick note for Mike ..... your forum is not the only one I go to so BEWARE the things you say .... he he...)

Sorry, I rambled...

I don't know much about Vegemite but Marmite is a big Woo Hoo - I love the stuff....

I don't know about Vegemite...but does anyone here like Tamarind? It's "the fleshy part of frut"...or so the makers claim. It's also a key ingredient in several other savory candies that brag about having "vegetable salty" and other exciting things.

roflmao Jenny ... my friend Johanna had some Tamarind juice in her room the other day ... I don't know if it was fleshy or if it had vegetable salty though.
