Can the file created by the scanner be converted to a text file format. If so, How?

text file format? you mean like having the picture turned into ascii? or having the actual binary format into something that is in ascii like most newsgroups post of binary files? if it's the first that you are looking for... look around the web for a giftoascii converter and some do a decent job... if it's the latter... most posts are encoded and decoded in uuencode/uudecode... search around yahoo and that should turn up some hits...
