I was watching an episode of "Northern Exposer" and I realized something. The guy who played Mark's dad was of the main characters but did you know that Anthony Edwards guest starred in a few episodes? How ironic is that?

I didn't think it was irony - I assumed that Anthony Edwards had something to do with getting John Callum cast. I'm not sure about the casting process, but I imagine that those in charge would take suggestions from the actors - especially if two actors had worked well together in the past. The actress who played Ruthanne on Northern Exposure has also been on er - I thought that perhaps Anthony Edwards had remained friends with many of his old castmates, hence their appearances on er.
