Interesting photo. I think that as a portrait, this is defeated by the out of focus (and in focus) leaves that obscure the birds face. This is one case, where I would have either tried for a different angle or lost the teleconverter and backed off a bit. The intruding foliage might not be quite as distracting if you were simply depicting an animal interacting with its environment, rather than a frame filling portrait.

Mark makes some very good points - in fact the same ones that came to my mind when I first looked at this image. But the more I looked at it the more I liked it and the more I found the out of focus grass GOOD instead of BAD. To me you've succeeded in getting in close for a portrait and you have the important features for the portrait, but you've also been able to include the environment. The more I look, the more I like. I agree with Rod; this photo works for me and I am impressed with the quality in the face of the film speed and lens type plus converter
