non-sectarian religious CBB

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I do enjoy debating/discussing these religious/spiritual topics but this really is not the place for it. For those who feel similarly I suggest you visit the board at www.religioustolerance.org There is a wide representation of numerous faiths and it too is a civil discussion site. Thot ya'll might be interested.

Thanks for bringing that up John! My point of view is, nothing will ruin a family or a forum like religion and politics. That is, unless those topics are tied to homesteading. hope that doesn't offend. Wonder how other people feel.....Kirk.....

I really don't see any reason to take it off the forum, as long as it stays on its own thread with a specific title so that anyone who wants to doesn't have to have it shoved....Just like those who don't visit the goat questions. Choice, and most folks religion and politics are such an passionate part of them, that it has alot to do with their choice to homestead also. Vicki

I am with you, Vicki. Don't read it, if you don't like the topic. I skip stuff I don't care for. Thanks for the tip though on the religion site! I'll check it out.

Vicki, Helen.

Yep.

I liked the religion thread. It was very educational. I plan to print that one so I can look up the Biblical references as I have time. I also have to say I liked hearing all the different views. I enjoyed getting to know some of the people on this forum better. I respect each and every person that responded. Denise

Kirk: No offense taken here. As far as religion/spirituality being connected to homesteading, in the broadest sense its connected to all that we do if we try to live it, whether we live beyond the sidewalks or above them in a high rise.

I agree also with the statement about forums being ruined by too much religion or politics. This used to be a very "topical" site where 99% of the questions and comments were specifically related to homesteading. The good thing tho is that despite our obvious differences in spiritual matters, civility has remained and perhaps that speaks volumes for the implicit spirit we all partake of.

Since there seems to be a consensus of opinion about religious topics being OK here as long as they're appropriately titled in the thread heading I'm goin back to the thread that started this and respond to a couple things.

I agree with Vicki Helen and Denise and anyone else that thinks it's a good idea. It's quite obvious from the religious and political threads that we all don't agree on the same issues, but it sure gives us food for thought while we're weeding, tilling, havesting, watching the chickens etc. Besides that, this forum is about all I have time for on the net til late fall.
