Is there room for another breed club?

I am investigating the possibility of a Souther Counties Shih-Tzu Club. What does anyone think?(:o)

We do not see any reason why there should not be a Southern Counties Shih-Tzu club - there is a Northern and South Wales and the Western Counties so why not a Southern. When we were in Bearded Collies there were Southern Counties, Eastern, Northern and Scottish all affiliated to the Bearded Collie Club. Good idea.

Hopefully, when we can persuade a few more people to post on here, we can get some discussion on the subject going. I would really like to see a Southern Club. I would also see a slightly more progressive club. I think we have got a little bit fixed in our ways, and need to open our minds a bit! (:o)

I also think that is there is plenty of room for another shih tzu club, like the Southern shih tzu club.I dont think that you can have too many really.i will be interested to see how many people feel the same.

How do you think I should canvass people in the breed about this idea? I wondered about leaflets at a Ch. Show, or something like that.(:o)

OK, I have all the information I need to set up a Breed Club - if anyone is interested in being one of the founder members (ie. happy to do some donkey work!) let me know, and I will forward you the information. (:o)

How about a midland counties Club, I am a member of the Northern counties, the Shih Tzu club and the Manchu so if there were a couple more clubs i guess i would apply to become a member there too. Pat.

I think i ought to say that I love the breed club shows, the rest of the year we go to Open shows and meet perhaps 4 or 5 exhibitors in the breed or the championship shows where everyone is benched so you may speak to the people around you and any special friends that you may visit at their benches but the club shows everyone is together in the hall they are so much more relaxed and you can see some lovely dogs and speak to everyone or anyone.People seem more amiable and approchable so if we had more breed clubs you would increase these shows and have a lot of fun too. I think sometimes at champ shows people are so intent on winning, they forget that we are following our hobby and it is supposed to be enjoyable too.

Know what you mean about the Breed Club shows, as much a social gathering as a competition.

Mind you Pat, if you love the Breed Club Shows here, you would just be in your absolute element at the ASTC Speciality. It is wonderful fun.(:o)

I agree the club shows are a wonderful way to learn about the breed from people who have known the old dogs that todays exhibitors can never know. So why do we have so few entries for our Spring and Summer Open shows? I think a new club would really struggle after the initial interest had died down, the dog show calendars, it seems, can only support a certain amount of club shows. My opinion is that in the main, people want to qualify their dogs and or gain tickets, neither of which club open shows cater for.

I went to the Northern counties fun day, the same weekend as the shih tzu club open show, unfortunately saturday isnt the best day for me as i work during the week, im ussually tying to catch up on chores on saturday, and im afraid as my husband dosnt share my interest in showing he gets a little fed up when spending the whole weekend on his own,so what a pity both these shows were in the same weekend, perhaps if they were just a week or so apart then i might have entered both, even though they are both at least a 2 hour if not more, journey away.I havnt been down to the Shih tzu club open show befor, perhaps i'll try to attend next year.

Gloria, I must admit to having changed my mind about the idea of another Breed Club - I`m not sure that there is a need or a requirement for one. Entries seem to be down everywhere, and the demise of the Open Show is a sad and perplexing problem.

Patricia - you must go to the Shih-Tzu Club Ch. Show (date please Gloria). They work really hard to make it a super day out, and it is well worth a visit.(:o)

Perhaps ill try and get to the Christmas party, my dog was the only one in fancy dress this year at the Northern counties, and perhaps there will be a little more competition for this class at the party. I might not even need to make another costume as so few people saw it >G< Pat
