Rumor about Noah Wyle

greenspun.com : LUSENET : ER Discussions : One Thread

Ther seems to be a rumor over at Yahoo Clubs- Club ER that Noah Wyle is eithier leaving ER or taking a break. Will someone please get to the bottom of this rumor and let us know what is going on here? Unless he threaten to leave if they got rid of Erik Palladino. Otherwise I don't know how this rumor gotstarted.

I very highly doubt this. Noah Wyle has already signed on for the next few seasons of ER. He might come in late because of his character being in rehab and all... maybe that's what they're talking about... hmm that's all i know. :) ~Lauren~

I don't know but he does deserve a break though. Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think he's missed an episode since "Middle Of Nowhere".

I think that taking a break could be possible. He is supposed to be in rehab. Although professionally, I heard that Noah Wyle is shooting a film, a sci-fi/fantasy movie called Donnie Darko. It was in the Hollywood Reporter today, I believe. So if Wyle is taking, say a few months to do this film, then it may be possible that he'll be MIA for a few eppys. Or, who knows. If his filming ends earlier, then he'll be in time to do ER rehearsals.

No I am not leaving ER, but I am taking a break. So don't trust the rumors.

-- Noah Wyle (Carter@ER.com), June 28, 2000.

Will you e-mail me with the address of where you read the rumors on the "yahoo club"? Thanks!!

Samira does the Hollywood Reporter have a web site? If they do can you tell us the web address so we could read it? Thanks!

I found two of the clubs that asked if the rumors were true or not. They are http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/er club and http:// clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/noahwylefanclub That's where I heard it.

I found a news article talking about the cutback of the cast. It's www.geocities.com/robtageant/er_news.html

-- Andie (none@hi.com), June 28, 2000.

I highly doubt, in my opinion, that Wyle is leaving. Why would he do that? He is at his all time high, he is to loyal to quit, just like that anyways. Just rumors!!

Noah did both "Pirates of Silicon Valley " and "Fail-Safe " while shooting ER episodes at the same time. In fact , Noah did not miss a single episode during this time. He had a good amount of screen time on ER while doing both of these projects. There are tone of rumors tghat go around all the time on the show and the actors. 99% of them turn out to be false. As for Carter, rehab typically last only a few mweek to three months depending on the program. Carter can very realistically be bac k to work when the season premeires.

Oh boy, some people really do need to learn about what is a reputable "news" source and what isn't. The URL given above looks like just another fan site talking about "rumors," and so it's considered "news"? This fan site gives NO valid news source for the alleged "cutbacks."

Folks... if you don't read it from some source like CNN or Associated Press or Yahoo or Reuters or Variety or the Hollywood Reporter, or your local newspaper, or hear it on a more established TV show like Entertainment Tonight or E!... or heck, even the Star which is sometimes right but usually wrong... chances are, it's just erroneous gossip, or a fan's wishful thinking, or a combination of both.

Check your sources. Just because some fan says "I heard a rumor" doesn't mean it's gospel truth. Ask them WHERE they heard it from and if they can't give you a reputable news source, be skeptical.

As for Noah Wyle... the fact is he's signed a contract with ER that runs until the end of the 2001-02 season. (Source for this information: Associated Press) The film "Donnie Darko" is beginning filming in July and it seems unlikely that Wyle will be tied up on it for months and months as it is only a low budget ($10 million) film. (Source for this information: The Hollywood Reporter) As others here have pointed out, Wyle and other actors from ER have previously combined working on ER with working on other projects, so that doesn't seem like it should be a problem.

If Wyle was going to leave "ER" or even take an extended break, I think the reputable news sources would be all over this story. He's only, what, the second or third highest paid actor on television on the #1 show. You would hear about this story within days if not hours. It would be big news in the TV world. So, keep checking the reputable sources before y'all fly off the handle.

I agree with Tracy. Rumors are just that, Rumors. As for Noah Wyle leaving Er or taking a leave, I just don't believe it.

-- ReneeL. (Slinne32@aol.com), June 28, 2000.

Thank you Tracy. Very well put. I highly doubt he would leave, especially now. A break might be possible, but I even doubt that.

By the way, is he the 2nd or 3rd highest paid actor on television or ER?

-- Joanne (bucklind@hotmail.com), June 29, 2000.

I don't think he is the 2nd or 3rd highest paid actor on all of television...maybe just ER. I think Anthony Edwards and even Eriq LaSalle make more per epi than Noah Wyle does. Also, back when it was announced that ER would be on through 2004 it was said in an article in my local paper that Noah Wyle has said he would stick with ER until the end.

-- amanda (amanda.rehm@home.com), June 29, 2000.

Eriq La Salle got paid retroactive for season five even though he did not sign a new contract until the season ended. Both Noah and Eriq are making $27 million over four years while Anthony is being paid $35 million dollars over the same a mount of time. They make the most money of actors in a drama series . However, there are several people who make more money for starring in a comedy series such as the case with the Friends actos new contract and the lead guy on Frasier.

Uh, thanks, "Noah," for clearing that up for us! How nice of you to drop by!

Seriously, thanks to the person who defined a "real" news source from a "tabloid." The rumors are spread faster and farther thanks to the Internet, I'm afraid.

As any journalist will tell you, stick to the facts. Wyle has a contract, and until there is a "real" news report that the contract will be broken, he will be on ER.

-- Avan (avanveck@aol.com), June 29, 2000.

I'm not saying I believe the rumors (I don't) but you have to remember that Sherry Stringfield had a contract too--and she got out of it before it was up. It COULD happen. I agree, though, consider the source. I mean, Noah himself just appeared on this very discussion forum and TOLD us he wasn't going anywhere! :P (hee hee)

-- Cecelia (evilstoat@hotmail.com), June 30, 2000.

As I've stated on another thread, Sherry Stringfield did leave her contract at a high price, the inability to act until the contract was up...a long period of time. She'd also done something similar on NYPD BLUE. Noah has never shown anything but the utmost professionalism. I guess I'm just a little irked that he was compared to SS...like comparing apples and oranges. Everything I've read about NW is that he's a serious actor and a stable person. In fact, with the exception of the above projects, he's done little other than ER during the past six years. I read somewhere that he said he'd do a good project (he passed on PIRATES at first but then reconsidered) but he'd prefer to focus on ER and enjoy his life instead of constantly working. He might take a brief break, but I bet it's BRIEF. He'll be back!

-- Diana (dilynne@juno.com), June 30, 2000.

Who compared Noah to Sherri Stringfield?

-- Cammie (rmaelhorn@home.com), June 30, 2000.

Relax, I'm not comparing Noah to anyone. Just reminding folks that just because someone has a contract, it doesn't mean they are definitely going to stick around forever. I'm sure Noah will stay, but more because of professionalism and his love of the show and his colleagues than simply because he has a contract.

As for SS--I thought the stipulation was that she couldn't act on TV, not that she couldn't act at all...I'll have to go look for the other thread you mentioned, if you already answered this point I apologize.

-- Cecelia (evilstoat@hotmail.com), June 30, 2000.

From seeing interviews, I think NW seems pretty dedicated to ER. And I agree that if he left the show it wouldn't last too much longer; along with Mark, and if they gave Benton some better storylines, he'd be just as important. And as far as taking a break, I hope he doesn't...I hope that the first show is his return...he's the one I'm looking forward to seeing again. (also, I heard he has a small beard right now, on a news website...I really hope this is just a summer thing, or maybe it's just a goatie, I did not enjoy the season 5 look, until he cut his hair around The Storm...then he looked VERY nice!)

-- Elaine (mrsclooney78@hotmail.com), July 01, 2000.

I think the season 5 look was because he was filming PIRATES OF SILICON VALLEY at the time.

And I just wanted to point out when I posted above that Sherry Stringfield had been mentioned and why I thought (my opinion) he wouldn't follow the same suit...or many actors wouldn't. TPTB let Kellie Martin out of her contract by mutual agreement because they obviously felt it was time to dispense of her character. They didn't SS because they wanted Susan to remain. I don't think they'd let NW out of his and I don't think he would have any reason to want to leave under those circumstances (or any maybe).
