canon 35-105 zooms

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon FD : One Thread

Well, I've seen a lot of excellent reviews about the canon FD 35-105 f/3.5 lens in this discussion group. Can anybody give me some feedback on the smaller/newer/not as great FD 35-105 f/3.5-4.5?

Thanks

It's smaller, lighter and not as good. It is also cheaper and uses 58mm filters, which are cheaper than the 72mm filters of the constant 3.5 lens.

I have both. I like the size and weight of the 3.5-4.5, but it just isn't as good a lens as the 3.5 version. So I tend to use it in daytime, outside shots so I cam working with it stopped down a bit.

I have been using canon fd lenses for years and Iv'e recently bought the 35-105 3.5 and I think it's an incredible lens. Pictures are as sharp and same color rendition as canons L lenses and Nikons top lenses. A great recommendation is to put the 72mm lens hood on it and use it every time you shot even though it may seem awkward at times. d basarich
