Mich. Co. Recalls Meat, E.Coli Risk

WASHINGTON, (AP) -- Bert HazeKamp & Son Inc. is recalling 11,000 pounds of ground beef products that may be contaminated with E. coli, the Agriculture Department said Tuesday.

The voluntary recall by the Muskegon, Mich., company covers one and two pound packages of D&W hamburger, ground beef, ground round and ground sirloin produced on June 29 and distributed to stores in Kent, Ottawa, Muskegon, Van Buren, Kalamazoo and Newaygo counties in Michigan.

The packages being recalled display a code ''181'' and bear the establishment number ''10017'' inside the USDA seal of inspection.

The potential E. coli contamination was discovered through routine microbiological sampling by government inspectors. E. coli is a potentially deadly human pathogen. AP-NY-07-04-00 2055EDT<
