big day at frog hollow farm

EEEEHAAA!!! After several years of dinkin around when a little spare time and money allowed my saw mill is finally, basically operational! I'd been having some hydraulic problems and finally figured it out. I'm happy to say it seems real zippy(fast) and true. Along way to go before its fully operational but I cut up two logs today and all went really well.

Then when I went to the city compost pile for grass clippings for mulching I picked up a large planting of day lilys someone dug up and disposed of. Guess what I'll be doing tomorrow?

that is great!! can i ask you a question? can sleeper logs from an old barn be shaved down to be used as veneer{sp}? they are about 20 ft long and 4 ft thick, i want to fake the log look in part of the house, i think 3 are oak and 2 are chestnut. thanks.

renee: I don't know what a sleeper log is but judging by the description and assuming there are no nails etc I'd think you'd be able to use them for verneer or saw logs if you can find a mill big enuf to handle them. In fact, they might be worth big money as verneer logs.

Congratulations John on your accomplishment. I can relate to your feelings of elation when a project finally comes together. I've had a few of those myself lately.
