site about raising fish/pondsgreenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread |
Despite what happened the last time I tried to post a site, here I am again. This site has a LOT of stuff on it, including things in .pdf you can download. I can't download, so can't tell you how useful they are, but from what I can get at, should be some very good information. Lots of different types of ponds, lots of different types of fish.http://www.aquanic.org
At least that's what it is at the moment. Gerbil

Gerbil, thanks for the site. One of my projects for next year is to convert my inground swimming pool to a fish pond and I am researching now which kind of fish I want in there and any other water life appropriate as food for humans. I'm checking out crayfish, snails, bass and catfish at the moment.I have three catfish in the pool right now because I am experimenting on how to keep the algae out of the water. Once I am happy with a system for doing that I am going to pull out the liner and seal the seams in the structure and see if it will hold water. If not, I will have to put some EPDM lining in it to hold the water. I am also interested in combining the raising of aquatic food animals with hydroponics of plants to eat as well. It will be a long term project that I am sure will evolve over time as I discover new things I can do with it. It is hard to find information on raising things in a pool because the info is either about small tanks or large fish ponds. So I expect I will have to do some experimenting on my own. Right now I have three catfish that I bought at the local pet store and some frogs that have invited themselves to move in. I also have some pollywogs and it looks like a salamander or two. It is going to be a fun project that I am really looking forward to it. Have you got a project going that made you interested in this website?
