I thought it was interesting though. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Republic of Texas Files For UNPO Membership --------------------------------- Posted Tuesday, July 18, 2000 at 1:58PM CDT by Vice President Daniel Miller:

URGENT - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE!

This week the Republic of Texas filed for formal membership as a member of the Unrecognized Nations and Peoples Organization (UNPO), headquartered in The Hague, Netherlands. If accepted, the Republic of Texas would enjoy international recognition by as many as 55 countries, including three who are members of the United Nations.

UNPO is an international organization created by nations and peoples around the world who are not represented in the world's principal international organizations, such as the United Nations.

Founded in 1991, UNPO today consists of over 50 members and observer nations and peoples who represent over 100 million persons. UNPO offers an international forum for occupied nations, indigenous peoples, minorities, and even oppressed majorities who currently struggle to regain their lost countries, preserve their cultural identities, protect their basic human and economic rights, and safeguard the natural environment.

Some of the peoples and countries represented by the General Assembly of UNPO are East Timor, Estonia, Tibet, and Taiwan.

"Events will move very quickly from this point," stated Secretary of State for the Republic of Texas Bernard Grover. "We are moving forward with a transitional plan that will culminate in a national election of a Congress and the adoption of a new Constitution."

The office of Provisional Government President Archie Lowe is scheduling a press conference to announce that Texas is taking her rightful place in the world as an independent nation. "We have suffered for years under the unlawful military occupation of the US federal government," said President Lowe. "We are very much aware of the historic significance of this new development. We pray that God Almighty will guide the hands and hearts of the Citizens of Texas as they begin the awesome task of restoring self-government to their nation."

The acceptance of the application by UNPO is a large step in the attempt to gain additional international recognition for the Republic of Texas. The application will move to the Steering Committee of UNPO. If it passes there it will move to a final vote in the UNPO General Assembly.

The General Council of the Provisional Government will be meeting in San Antonio on July 22nd at 10am at the Crockett Hotel. One item on the agenda will be to formally accept the UNPO membership documents. Updates will be posted regularly to the government's website located at http://www.republic-of-texas.net. Further information on UNPO can be obtained from www.unpo.org. The public and media are encouraged to contact the Provisional Government for general questions or formal interviews.

I grew up in Texas. To say that Texas has been "illegally occupied" for years makes as much sense as saying the "south" will rise again. There are more jingoes per square mile in Texas than anywhere else I've ever known. The prevailing credo is "we're better than everyone else". I wonder why that would

I thought Archie Lowe was in prison. I sure wouldn't be totally against Texas leaving the US but to think it actually might is silly. We're stuck there with the likes of bill clinton and his organized crime group. I've lived in Texas all my life and there's always been tald of succession but it's just that, talk. BTW have ya'll heard that some nuts in Congress are trying to make it a FEDERAL crime to talk on a cell phone while driving a car. Pretty soon everything will come under federal law and the FBI will be running tanks through peoples' homes and burning women and children like they did in Waco because they talked on a cell phone while driving a car.

...and if the Republic of Texas is ultimately successful, then the new Provisional Government won't mind if the State of Texas comes in to the new Republic and tears up the old state roads. The Feds can come in and rip up the federal highways, the county can rip up their roads and any public utility can remove their gas lines and electric transmission towers. But then, the new Republic could keep all this existing infrastructure and pay for it with...with...ah...hmmmmm, oh yes. Taxes! Taxes for Texans! Well gosh, let me hitch the oxen to the conestoga wagon and mosey on down there. Will the new treasury accept gift certificates to Wal-Mart? Sheeesh!!

P.S. to Joe Cole...

Don't worry about the FEDS making cell phone talk illegal. Several communities here in northeastern Ohio have beaten them to the punch. I can't say that I'm in favor of legislation against cell phones in cars. It should be handled by insurance companies. On the other hand, the chief accountant where I work is recovering from injuries when he unbuckled his seat belt to reach his cell phone on the seat. He took his eyes off the road to dial a number, and after several barrel rolls in his $35,000 SUV was thrown out the back hatch. He's lucky to be alive. I believe the current statistics say that a person talking on a cell phone while driving is 4 times more likely to have an accident. Know what? They're right!

I've been almost run over by idiots talking on cell phones but I sure as hell don't want the FEDERAL government getting involved in every little aspect of our lives.

And to the poster above. That's nuts about the federal government tearing up all the roads and stuff. We've got Texas Rangers. And I suspect Texas could pay for whatever we need by selling Yankees oil and gas cause we've got lots of it. And if you Yankees don't like it, we've got the Pantex Neuclar Plant in Amarillo. But, of course, it's silly to think Texas would ever leave the union, but it's a fun subject to talk about.

Here is one that was too good not to share. Subject: MILLION MOM MARCH organizer uses GUN to attempt murder From: chef770@mailcity.com Date: 7/18/00 6:49 PM Eastern Daylight Time Message-id: <8l2mtk$7rq$1@xring.cs.umd.edu>

Barbara Lipscomb, an organizer of the Million Mom March, was charged with assault with intent to kill for shooting a teen who she believed to have caused her son's death. It was later determined (second story) that she had probably shot the wrong person.

I couldn't find in the story where it said this woman was the same as the one who organized the march. Where did you get that information?

-- Joe Cole (jcole@apha.com), July 19, 2000.

Heehee! Maybe they'll finally put up the rest of the fence to close off the other states and we in Texas really will secede!

When I lived in Texas,I was a little concerned that my children had to sing,"Texas,My Texas" to begin the school day instead of "America The Beautiful",LOL...it was sooooooooooooooo hot there that I actually considered putting in an ad for donations to send this "Yankee" back home..so where do I end up??? Alabama, Heart of Dixie, and 101 today....yeehaw...home is where you make it,in or out of the Republic of Texas..God bless...

Regarding the Republic of Texas and secession, being a transplant to Texas I must say I would be all for it if the original Texas constitution or the original US constitution were the law of the land. As for the comments by Craig, who would seem to be some kind of a thorn in my shoe, those roads are our roads any way, because of the fact that they were our taxes used to make them and regardless of the attitudes in DC it is still WE THE PEOPLE until they make an absolute announcement declaring this the Communist States of America in which case, heads will be rolling down the aforementioned freeways and no one will be driving on them anyway. Glad I got that off of my chest!

The lady in the news links above was just a partcipant in the Million Mom March and serves as a great example of the silliness that march espoused.

I hope Texas does succeed in seceeding....(say that three times fast) but I think it would be the same as when the South tried to exercise their Constitutional right to seceed. Not a good time for anyone.

-- Doreen (livinginskin@yahoo.com), July 20, 2000.

The Republic of Texas has been trying to get UN recognition for a long time now. That was started before the "siege" near Ft. Davis several years ago. Actually, there was some sort of little problem with the annexation of Texas, but I can't remember just exactly what it was. Any way, we weren't legally annexed, and the Republic of Texas has long contended that the contract between Texas and the US was null and void because of it. As for taxes, I believe that you will find that Texas is a donor state--that is, one who sends much more money to DC than is sent back. As for the session of the South, there is a growing number of people organizing with that goal in mind. The South DID have the right to seceed, and the Civil War was an illegal war by today's standards, or the standards of the time for that matter. There is also a growing number of people in the western states that are talking about secession due to the fact that the federal government owns much of the land and is forcibly buying up much more of it, therefore forcing the people to live in smaller and smaller areas if they want to stay in their native states.

Hi Doreen,

Texas COULD be one of those states that could make it alone because they are a net exporter. Good point. I imagine, Texas currency would be pretty stable also. I believe your state would be in the top 10 in world economies all by itself, if I recall my U.S. Commerce stats correctly. So, if Texas can pull out successfully, will my Ohio driver's license by sufficient for a visit or do I need a passport? Maybe the Ohio governor can work something out with Texas to trade Japanese autos built in Ohio (ha!) for Texas crude.

Yes, I think that the driving situation would not be unlike going to Canada or Mexico, or Europe. Just possess a valid State License and go. I don't believe we would trade crude for cars, but I wouldn't be running for Sec of Commerce anyway! What I would love to see would be a BAN on Chinese imports. Who knows.....
