Milk Buckets and Kitchen utensils

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Hi Everyone, I know that all of you may not have a Target department store near you, but for those of you who do... I just wanted to let you know that I went down there and they have two stainless steel buckets available that are perfect for milk buckets. There is one there with no lid and seamless construction for 14.99. If any of you have priced buckets, you know this is an incredible price. For 19.99 I bought one with a lock tight plexiglass lid with rubber seal. This one has a stainless steel handle, with plexiglass bail cover on the carrying part. This is a great deal folks. Target also has fine selections of stainless kitchen utensils that are high quality. Everyone that can ought to go have a look. Little bit Farm

I'm not an advocate of overconsumption. i have a few family members that are pack rats! but i love "stuff", and target and walmart are the places to get it!

I needed some drill bits and went to Olney IL this afternoon. After checking our local Rural King store yesterday and finding nothing I could use-I went to a "cheapie" store today. It's imported junk from china but hey, it's cheaper than wallyworld or target. I don't like china junk but its what you get at all those cheapie stores anyhow. I bought a 29 bit index for $5.50 and 4" cutting wheels for .50 each. So what if they ain't very good---I'm not too particular. Most of the other junk I've bought and paid dearly for wasn't any good either. Use the bits once and throw'm away if need be. Sockets I was payin through the nose for at Sears are just a token amount from china. Sears is much better stuff but no more than I use these products I can't justify the extra expense of good stuff. Oh, by the way----these credit card apps we get daily in the mail. Most of'm have a pre-paid envelope enclosed along with their "pitch". I trash the "pitch" and use the envelope to send Bible Tracts back to'm with. They invaded my privacy with their garbage- I'll send'm something back that's NOT garbage and will last for eternity. Hoot: Did you know that Sears has a lifetime warranty on all Craftsman hand tools? You can take a damaged socket, or screwdriver, or what-have-you into a store and they will give you a brand new one.My better half is a mechanic and does it all the time.

Little Bit- THANK YOU!!! I've been using a stainless steel bucket that doesn't have a very good lid, and I've wanted another one and couldn't afford the $60 price tag. I'm going to go down to Le Target tomorrow morning before it gets hot and pick one or even two up. I sure do appreciate the heads up on this bargain!

Thanks ! I went to Target, yesterday and purchased the SS milk pail! I don't have goats, yet but was afraid it would be gone before I got them! Any more great deals? I love kitchen "stuff" and Target does have some nice ones! Thanks again.

Peg at Wildwood and others about Sears:

My husband took a wratchet back to Sears last week and they threw it into a drawer, opened another drawer and gave him a refurbished one. Bob says.. "Hey this isn't new." and the "intelligent" sales clerk says "Oh yeah, we don't do that anymore. All you'll get is refurbed stuff." Bob said that if it broke on him again, he was getting his money back and buying Matco or Snap-On. Those guys are double and triple the price... but who has time to run to Sears every week to replace a broken tool?? Just my opinion!!

Misha' Sears quality and customer service has slowly being going down hill. they have the attitude that they're such a big business that upsetting one customer won't hurt. apparently they don't realize that customers go to forum just like this and that word gets around! my mother always tells me that word of mouth will make or break a company and i believe it!

I'm always searching yard/garage sales and thrift stores for quality stainless steel kitchen goodies. Most cast iron came from trash pickin'. We were fortunate enough to inherit my husband's grandfather's tools 36 years ago and are still using ALL of them. If quality items are purchased they last a lifetime and there's no disposal problem. Refuse to enter a Wal-Mart store, but Target is great! Pharmacy items are cheaper than Walgreen's. I, too, agree that Sear's is going downhill. Use to be able to buy a single part cheaply, now everything is ordered and includes a steep handling fee. The quality isn't there anymore. Grab the old stuff when you can.

We bought a stainless steel pot like that for about $15.00, the thing is, that on the ones we've seen, they're rather thin walled and dent easily. Some of them are also only plated with stainless steel, you can tell by whether or not a magnet will stick to them. We have the heavy stainless steel milking bucket, and yes they cost a lot, but they are truly an investment, since they will last a lifetime or two with halfway decent care.
