what are these terrible little maggot-like things in my garlic and onions

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Hello again! Here I go again with another question!(This forum is terribly addictive by the way!It seems I'm always staying up way too late when I'm on it!)

My question:What are these terrible,little,maggot-like things that have all but RUINED my garlic? They also were into my onions but not to the same extent.I had great hopes for my garlic patch-alas... How can this be prevented next year(organically if possible)?

Thankfully the rest of my garden is doing beautifully this year! This is the first year I've ever had such tall, bushy tomato plants loaded with tomatoes!

I sure do appreciate everyone here on the forum! Thanks in advance... I pray that the Lord would bless you all-he knows the needs of all our hearts! With affection, ~~~Tracy~~~

Take a sample into your local ag agent. They may be able to identify them and recommend treatment.

sounds like you have onion maggot, My book says not to plant onions or garlic in rows or close to each other as a preventive measure, If you have chickens show them the maggots and let them go to town.
